Poll: Ryzen 7950X3D, 7900X3D, 7800X3D

Will you be purchasing the 7800X3D on the 6th?

I've posted some suggestions in this thread for how to tune curve optimiser for 7950X3D, most of it will apply to 7800X3D too. Except the starting value for testing might be different.

I'd try -15 as a starting point. Some cores may only accept a smaller number, some might accept -30 or higher. Takes time and effort optimising each one. Each individual core needs to be stable under a lightly threaded single core load and a all core load. If you find my previous posts about how to tune using curve optimiser, that should give you guidance on what to use and how to do it.
Thanks Will give it a go

Far Cry New Dawn is another game where I’m getting massive uplift.
Never finished it before as I wasn’t happy with performance.
However why is cpu running at 89C in this game if it’s using between 50 and 60W..? What the heck.?
I have both negative curve optimiser and positive clock optimiser enabled currently.

Sounds like it’s running 6-7 cores flat out.

Actually cpu usage is quite low as it is old game. I’ve not seen it running that hot even when maxing out all cores. Very strange.
Upped cpu fan which dropped few degrees.
I’ve not tested max framerate as I have it locked to 119 due to gsync but before the game was dropping to around 60-70 and now it sits at 119.

Maybe try another tool.

Motherboard display is showing about 10C less but the fact that I’ve not seen it go over 89C in any windows program tells me that they are all showing correct temp as 89C is the limit for this cpu at which point it starts to throttle.

Not sure, you are using Nvidia software so it’s likely trying to set something on fire.

He's right tbf, I saw higher than normal temps running Far Cry 5. Far Cry 6 was fine though. I think Far Cry 5 loves the VCache so much that it causes a higher than normal CPU temp. New Dawn is based on 5, so it is probably the same. There's a reason these chips are locked down from adding voltage.

I remember checking out the game when I had a 2700x + 2080Ti and being unhappy with performance and some stuttering. I never played it because of that.
This makes me want to revisit it when I get the 7800x3d (hopefully) next week.

Can anyone here recommend a CPU benchmarking tool?

I've been using the 3D mark CPU test but I'd like to find something else that doesn't take an age to load but does a good job at the same time.

Thanks.

Ada is good. It’s probably a very unrealistic comparison to any desktop workload, but works well.

Can be tricky to accurately measure temps tho, as some level of offset is always applied and that varies between tools.

Yeah you will be happy with performance now. :)

Need better thermal compound.
Currently using MX-4 but also have some old CoolLaboratory Liquid Metal Pro laying around.
Worth a try apart from staining the cpu lol.?

The performance is great. Can be destructive for the ISH and cooler base. Also a royal PITA to apply.

I like good old AS5. Currently beavering away the 12 gram tubes when I see them at good prices.

I know Liquid Metal is pita to apply and clean.
I’ve used it on everything from CPUs, GPUs, consoles and especially delided CPUs.

Thanks dude. I'll try it out when I get home.

3D mark is giving me a different result everytime I run it which is a bit frustrating when trying to figure out what settings work best for this new 7800X3D.

One minute I think I've got it dialed in, then run the test again and results are worse than the first time round.

It more of a tool for testing stock clock stability and temperature overhead.

It’s an absolute worse case torture test.
