Will you be purchasing the 7800X3D on the 6th?

You will need more DRAM voltage. Start with VDD/VDDQ at 1.45v and see if stable then you can slowly start dropping it.

Cool. I'll try these. I can't seem to find GDM in the Asus Bios though. Also when trying to change voltages to 1.45, they just change back to 1.435. Seems thats the highest it allows me to set.

Then when checking Zentimings again the voltages just show as 0.000v.. weird.

But checking HWinfo, it shows the maximum voltage used was 1.45.

GDM on ASUS is called ADDR_CMD_MODE. Set to Buf

You need to enable high dram voltage mode to go over 1,435v.

It's in, bios updated. Accepted RAM speed. Just about to test games. Fingers crossed.
Spoke to soon haha

two ram sticks, I get warning light on RAM then CPU (red light). It's an ASUS mobo. Remove one RAM stick and i've got it to boot.

Seems to be working now, but much slower to boot than my 5900X system. Ram light LED shows for ages, before red CPU then green and boots. Is this normal?

It's much faster than my 5900X for anyone thinking to update.
Warzone 140 fps to 200 fps
Sones of Forest 70 fps to 120 fps

yes AM5 takes ages to boot depending on the motherboard, my one take 39.7 seconds on the Gene with bios 0925

Ah nice one.

Ah ok. Well found GDM and been testing a bit at 1.435 anyway, seems stable.

Another question.. What are safe temps for DDR5 anyway? Highest I've seen the Dimms get is 48 degrees while playing a gpu heavy game for a bit on those other settings.

Will these ludicrous boot times get fixed with future BIOS we reckon? My current Intel system goes from power switch to desktop in 16 seconds. But I'm moving to AM5.

My boot times are similar to yours (intel) with AM4 but I'm sure someone said very recently they were experiencing long boot times in AM4s infancy which was later rectified through BIOS updates. This is third hand information but it does seem logical that in time that should be fixed.

It’s doing memory training on every boot. You can skip it by enabling memory context restore in bios.
Once that option is enabled after first couple of successful boots it will start skipping it the led will immediately change to the next one.

I keep memory context restore disabled along with power down mode. I'd rather have a more stable, faster system and another 10 seconds on memory training.

I turn my system on once a day, waiting a little longer in the morning is not a big issue to me but YMMV.

18.4 seconds to show the user login screen and then the desktop starts fading in at the low 19s. Sub 20 boot.

Interresting. For people like me who have just clicked the "make it a bit faster" buttons in the bios for CPU and RAM would you still advise that? FYI my system hasn't wobbled at all, what's a good test to confirm stability?

It may already exist on here, maybe not from you.

But I think a great thread would be "overclocking with LTMatt" The process, what to change 1st, how to test, the potential gains etc.
