RYZEN DDR4 MEMORY, WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW!

Nope i get hard crashes. I'm at 3.9 @ 1.42 i don't think bios updates will improve my overclock either tbh. Not that I'm complaining 100mhz isn't going to set the world on fire.

Nope, but eventually it#ll nag at you... 3.9 is such an odd number....

:D

I honestly don't know whether to play with OC again. I am sure things will improve with later BIOS updates.

Do currently have my ram at 2400 14-14-14-38 as can't up the speed, but don't know if will just be wasting time on CPU oc...

Everything is pretty stable right now. Do I really want to mess with that?

Do I?

Do I really?

I do

Good luck!

I ddu'd it, installed older driver from earlier in year.

Managed an hour 32gb stress without black screen.

Decided to go out for some sun, so set it on another run of 2 hours 64gb while I'm out.

That's with the ram at 2400mhz 14-14-14-14-36 and cpu at 4ghz.

Runs around 1.4-1.42 under load and peaks around 65c.

Wish I could bloody hit 4 lol. I get slight instability at 3.95 too so 3.9 it is.

Just glad I can actually start using the darn thing now!

Busy doing a test movie encode.

Need to find a game to sink my teeth into for this next week am off.

Have horizon on ps4 to get through, but would like something to push my PC.

Have installed ashes of the singularity, but not sure how I'll get on with it.

Maybe rise of the tomb raider...

Anything else worth buying? Have bf1 on ps4 so not that...

For Hero VI are new AGESA BIOSes 82 & 83 at 2T:

There are two new settings under AMD CBS\UMC Common Options\DDR4 Common Options\ you might want to take a look at, Fail_CNT and ProcODT.

Fail_CNT decides how many times to retry when DRAM training fails (F9 -> 0d), default is now 1.

ProcODT can help improve your DRAM overclocking, 0079 relies on whatever Auto value AMD deems is best, 0081 has default value as 53.3 Ohm. There's a setting available also on previous BIOSes under AMD CBS\UMC Common Options\DRAM Memory Mapping named BankGroupSwap.
If you have 2x Single-Rank modules you can try setting this to Disabled and you might see some performance boost in certain applications.
(For my RAM better is to leave at Auto)

For anyone unfamiliar with ODT, it's a termination setting for signal integrity purposes. It's not going to affect performance (directly) or degrade your chip but it will affect your ability to run at higher clock speeds.
Both DRAM and DRAM controllers (IMCs) have ODT (on-die termination) resistors that are configurable to a few different settings.
Nominal ODT values are often set based on trace impedances, but other factors often come into play. I can imagine things like: number of DIMMs installed, DIMM PCB design, VDIMM and VTT voltages, etc all having an effect on which ODT setting works best.
I would shy away from very high settings because the signal will overshoot/ring a lot and potentially cause problems.

My experience:
Best for me is to leave now 2800MHz at CL14 and 1T with BIOS nb.82
2800MHz CL14-14-14-14-30 1T at 60ohm's
With BIOS 83 i can go up to 3100 CL16 2T -> it gets a little better Bandwith (+1.5GB to 2GB/s) but Latency is Higher (~ -3 to -6ns) (i like Latency more)
Generally best is to have RAMs produced ~2015 and The Best ones are from 2016 + at low CL (e.g. 3000 CL14, 3200CL14, 3600 CL16/15 etc.)

If you like to feel infuriated you can try competitive mode on overwatch, i still keep playing it though!
Resident evil? I'm looking at getting tomb raider or mass effect Andromeda when I've finished res.

Always fancied overwatch. Only problem I find is that I have too many MP games, most just languish...

Try modded The Witcher 3 - the settings in game are not the highest too.

Also, regarding RAM,I have seen a few recommendations for the GSKill Trident 3200MHZ set - any others people seem to get good results with?

Could always start that again. But is it something thats heavy on CPU?

I guess there aren't many properly multithreaded games...

Oh,I thought you meant a taxing game overall - with mods and extended settings it is meant to really push things. AFAIK,the game tends to use 4 to 8 threads,so is in-between a Core i5 7600k and a Core i7 7700k on the R7 1800X according to the DF review.

GTA V might be a contender though - IIRC,it does seem to do well on Ryzen especially with the latest BIOS updates, etc.

With the Trident Z kits, the price difference between the C14 and C16 stuff seems like a pretty big jump. Is the performance difference worth the cost. Has anyone been getting the CL16 stuff working well at 3200mhz?
