S939 A64 IHS Removal

I will do mine but I want to get the before overclock and temperatures first. Has anyone else got any hard data to share on the difference it made on both overclock and temperature? Also for those who have done this, how was the quality of the thermal bond between the die and the IHS?

I found on phase, with an X2 that temps dropped about 10C and got a coresponding increase in stable speed by about 100MHz. All the tops I've taken off look like they had decent 100% contact with the core.

I tried reading though the thread however I cannot find the answer I am looking for.

Is the Zalman CNPS9500LED compatible with the removal of the IHS? Has anyone tried it with the above configuration?

Cheers.

King.

EDIT:

Looks like it can be with some washers and so on. Decided to look harder. :)

My Venice 3200 lbble on the left, now stable to 2.75
And my 146 CAB2E 0545 CPMW still testing stable @ 2.9 @ 1.6v (was only stable @ 2.8 with ihs on)

All done with double sided razor blades, they were the lubricated ones.
very pleased with the overall improvement so far :)

They're using double sided razor blades, and some tape on one side of them.

Please be careful with razor blades people. One slip and you'll drive it deep into your finger, and they can need stiches.

yes, my dad decided to peel some spuds whilst we were on a hike with his razor blade and ended up chopping the top of his thumb off. it wasnt pleasaent. we managed to hike to the next town but he couldnt climb very well and left a nice blood trail over the course of 15 odd miles with the rest of his thumb in hos pocket. all in all it tought me a lesson not to use razor blades in silly situations. i am still working up the balls to chop the IHS of my opteron.

Oh, they glued it back on when we got to A&E.

Where are you guys getting razor blades? I've been looking for the kind with one edge covered but can't find any anywhere.
you can use standard razor blades, with one side covered/blunted or you can get single edge industrial razors which have the metal strip on one side. Also Stanley blades work fine as well.
