Safest place to sell

I had a scare selling my 1080Ti on eBay, buyer claimed it was DOA and sent it back. I was cursing the whole time, expecting the worst. To my surprise, it was working great, same serial number, etc. Buyer had just changed their mind I guess.

Re-listed it on eBay, sold successfully the second time. You do need stones of steel to not let it bother you if you're unlucky enough to get ripped off. I'm not sure I could handle losing a 4090 :(

Members Market here seemed pretty safe. Then they changed the rules on posts yet again...So access denied for many.

Erm eBay has been OK. But I watch my buyers like hawks and cancel bids from dodgy buyers.

Seems like i've not posted enough so lost access to MM to sell my 3070ti FE.

I can get £260 for it at CEX or they are going for around £350 on ebay. I've got close to 2000 feedback on ebay so no stranger to selling items and recently sold my Synology DS916+ on there with no issue.

Don't know if to take the risk on ebay with it.

Stick it on Hexus and I'll have it :D

It's really tricky selling stuff like this now, I have no faith in the general public so as mentioned often take the hit with CEX
:(

you could try and sell it on avforums?

Appreciate this most has been dormant for 11 months, but I thought i'd chime in on eBay given the recently announced changes. From 4th Feb 2025 you will receive payment AFTER your item has been delivered. For high value items it may be as long as 30 days. There goes one route of selling my 4090 FE.

I sold my old RX480 on the bay, same price i paid for it 2 years after I had it (good old crypto boom!) 0 issues my end, the only place I messed up on was i didn't know about the "free list days" so I lost £60 too fees which sucked.

CEX is ok if you need something else, instore credit is always higher and they offer a 5yr warranty now. I bought a 2nd hand 4k monitor from there super cheaper (only as a 2nd monitor, wouldn't have got my primary)

I plan on keeping my 1080ti when I upgrade, always wanted to create my own little dedicated server for some of the games I play so I plan on doing that at some point.

It's not ideal but I don't see why having to wait an extra few days for your money would be a reason why you couldn't sell there. If you are unfortunate and the buyer turns out to be a scammer, you'd still lose out if eBay had paid you straight away because you'd legally have to return the money.

True, but it's just too easy for people to mess you around. I've just heard too many horror stories of this happening - you post the item, the end user changes their mind and wants their money back, so pretend there is an issue, and they return the item in worse/broken condition. I just don't want to take the risk on a £1-1,200 item. It worked a treat for my 3080 2 years ago but I think I will try other options this time.

The risks are greatly exaggerated because you only hear about the horror stories. I sold over 50 items there and haven't had a single issue so far, though the highest value item I sold was £650 not £1400. Personally I wouldn't give CEX 25% of the value to avoid a 5% risk of getting scammed on eBay.

I agree the CEX cut is very sizeable. Hopefully I can eventually explore the Members market on this forum, but for now I will try to explore other options before falling back to ebay or CEX.

It's 25% yeah, but that covers the guaranteed purchasing, easy drop off in store, no faffs no worries just bring the box to the store and get your money in 2-3days later, I get other sites you can get more but it's time spent when you just want to get rid of it as easy as possible imo

Since ebay got rid of their fees, they've killed the competition in my opinion as you're potentially reaching the entire nation (and beyond). Facebook marketplace was useful but that's always going to be limited to local people (or those willing to travel). I recently sold my 3080 on ebay and always sell my cards on there. Just make sure you take plenty of photos and videos of it working and being posted. Also look for good feedback from your prospective buyers.

The time spent taking a picture, listing it, packing and arranging for it to be collected is 10-20 minutes of work at most.
