Saints Row: The Third

There is a bug causing bad performance with most 5 & 6 series AMD cards. According to posts on rage3d/steam forums a new driver will be out this week to fix it.
On affected cards, you'll notice ~30-50fps outdoors no matter how quick your card is and what settings you use. For example I get 30-50fps on a 6990 no matter whether I use ultra or low settings. My friend on a single GTX570 on ultra gets ~80fps.
There are guys on the other forums with 2x6990s or 1x6990+6970 all getting 30-50fps outdoors :rolleyes:

Thanks for that mate thats put my mind at ease thinking it was actually my setup causing the issue. Hopefully there will be a driver update like they promise sometime this week just a waiting game i guess

Also found these result in higher-than-ultra settings that are not available in-game:

LightingDetail = 3
ShadowDetail = 8192 (or any other power of 2, 4096 is 'high' in-game)
Reflections = 3
SSAO_Level = 3 (high res SSAO)
PostProcess = 3 (not sure what difference this makes, if any)

LightingDetail set to 3 is one massive fps killer, in-game setting option = 2. My screenshots showed very subtle differences, you will lose about 8 to 14fps, or 25fps+ with LightingDetail 3.

From enabling these hidden options I noticed they were originally going to use 0% to 100% slider for certain in game gfx settings similar to GTAIV.

I will cheers, can you record videos too?

Edit* just looked it up, yes you can

Yeap you sure can. When I downloaded it I grabbed the beta. The beta allows for good recording, I understand that beta may well be stable now. But do a search for the beta version if recording sucks on the one you download. It is a great bit of kit, displays time, GPU usage, which version of DX the game is running along with other stuff.

Cheers

thanks for that fella..:)

Hi mate i have a 5850 just like yourself i seem to only be getting around 40fps with mine, i have my PII 955 OC to 3.7ghz as well is you 5850 OC? I have the detail set to high and things like shadows and reflections on low or off no AA and have AF set to x16. Im runnng the 11.9 drivers

Hey. I have it clocked at 775 mhz core and 1125 memory. This is just by using the amd overdrive so nothing daring, I think! I play the game at 1920x1080 with v sync on, everything on highest setting and one setting below full aa. I sometimes notice the fps drop but its perfectly playable.

I hope this helps :)

I Dont see this on my steam, so if i buy the code to download from shopto would it still work as you have to download it from steam ? :confused:

Thanks :D

Yeap just enter the code into steam. Steam can't sell the game in the store for some reason, something to do with THQ or something, is was explained somewhere in this thread I think. But yes any codes will let you download via steam.

Check these bad boys out:

For some reason that old lady in the hat will not leave me alone. She may have to get her neck snapped or thrown into the sea :p

I cant get FRAPS to display it for some reason :(

can you use msi afterburner???

ive been reading and theres a few people with 580 sli that have same performance as me...

i tried it without sli and lowest i saw was 42...

i reckon we need nvidia to make a profile for sli in this game in the new drivers...

ill download it and take a look

i mean it dosent slow down for me, but then I think at 55fps my eyes wouldnt know any difference anyhow.. so ill take a look.

Actually I cant as my cards are not MSI so thats some sort of card booster unless ive googled the wrong thing?

It works on any card, it is designed to overclock your card. But you don't need to use that feature it has a whole bunch of other great features to monitor stuff/record and take screenshots :)
