As much as I want Hamilton to be well enough to race again next week, there's more than a little bit of me that wants Russell in the car again next week. ;)

I think it largely depends on what Hamilton plans long term. If, as expected, he'll race in 2022 then I doubt he'll be giving too much of a confidence boost to what might be his closest rival that season.

If however he aims to end after next season before the new regulations (or do a Rosberg and shockingly end this season) then he can be as glowing as he wants.

It's hard not be impressed by Russell this weekend and particularly in the race, but as I said it's a bit of an oddball race, more in keeping with Hockenheim 1999 than Bahrain 2020, so if Russell is to cement himself a shot in the top car in the long term then he needs to be as close to Bottas next weekend if the chance presents itself.

Can't see Hamilton retiring after this season when he's got an 8th world title pretty much sat on the table in front of him for next season. Ride off into the sunset for 2022 (like I suspect Toto will at Merc) by all means but not when he's on the verge of breaking all the records.

Said for a long time Russell is the heir apparent for Bottas at Merc, lad beat Kubica up at Williams every race as a rookie and has pushed on even more this season in a turkey car. Gutted for him but at the same time he's banked his seat for 2022 at the very least.

I can see Ferrari getting Russell if Merc are to slow to sign him.
And I see people on social media are having a right go a Wolf\Merc :)

They double stacked to get both cars done under safety car. In the confusion they fitted Bottas's left rear to Russell's car. Whilst fitting tyres to Bottas they realised the mistake and put his existing tyres back on. Russell was then called in to put the proper tyre on. Bottas struggled on the old tyres, then Russell got a puncture.

Edit: ah, was the front tyres, my bad.
