Salman Rushdie attacked

Wrong:

Many Muslims accused Rushdie of blasphemy or unbelief and in 1989 the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini of Iran issued a fatwa ordering Muslims to kill Rushdie. Numerous killings, attempted killings (including against Rushdie himself), and bombings resulted in response to the novel.[1]

The Iranian government backed the fatwa against Rushdie until 1998, when the succeeding government of Iranian President Mohammad Khatami said it no longer supported the killing of Rushdie.[2] However, a fatwa cannot be revoked in Islamic tradition.[3] Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei reiterated in 2017 that the fatwa was still in effect[4]. Even as late as 2019, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, the successor to Ayatollah Khomeini, insisted that the fatwa against Salman Rushdie is "solid and irrevocable".[

In recent times Muslim clerics have actually increased the bounty payable on the killing of Rushdie by about half a million pounds (from memory).

Religion of peace and tolerance though right?

Didn't know mods could totally delete a comment. I'll rephrase my totally valid point; why is this getting so much news coverage?

He's hardly a celebrity or anyone of importance

So a guy that's had a death sentence hanging over his head for 30 odd years for writing a book nearly gets offed and that isn't news worthy to you?

He's a titled author of fame and acclaim, under a fatwa from Muslim clerics and an Ayatollah. A fatwa that appears to have been attempted in front of an audience, and videoed. As news coverage goes it is justifiably getting a lot of air and media time, and of course public and private comment.

Now that I have hopefully clarified that mystery for you, why do you think it should not get much if any coverage, do you have a horse in this race...?

Nope he's just one person.. Who cares. Its plastered all over the news, clearly they are hyping this up

Most broadcasting companies have complaint departments, and there was, and maybe still is, something called "Points of View" via the BBC. You could make your case to those bodies, and see if they will take this stuff off the air and out of the media for you. I rate your chance of anything but ridicule as very very slim indeed however ;)

He's a world famous author of international renown.

Also not shocked that the only person to like your post on here is a member of ocuks own Muslim brotherhood.

Not about the subject itself the fact that's there's lots of media coverage about it. Notice the difference

I was curious about your forum name so did a spot of digging, you seem happy to discuss the death of a "nobody" by Muslim extremists when it suits you. You even quote the Quran. I think my question as to whether you have a horse in the race of the discussion of the attempted carrying out of a fatwa against a lapsed Indian Muslim is salient ;)

The guy who did this was deluded dumb brainwashed idiot

Also there are 3.37M Muslims in the UK, if it they were all anything like what you lot are saying staying at home and wearing a mask outside would be the least of your worries"

In fact in that French beheading thread you made quite a lot of posts. Strange perhaps that you now show surprise at the current media coverage and think it unworthy of air time or comment?

He's a well known figure, a paragon of free speech in society, who was targeted by an evil Islamic head of state for writing a fictional book.

It's far more newsworthy than most things, but I suppose religion being backward is nothing new.

Must be slow news day. Your missing my point, it's not aboit him... Its about the fact that this is getting so much coverage on the media and being hyped up.

Sounds like his condition is improving, thankfully.

Sir Salman Rushdie's injuries remain "severe" after he was stabbed, but his condition is heading "in the right direction", the author's agent has said.

Because back in 1989 and through the 90s it was massive news. It is a significant story and quite rightly on the front pages. Furthermore it brings into debate again how much free speech we have, or don't have, particularly when discussing a specific religion.
