Salman Rushdie attacked

Well go on then.
List the amount of times trump supporters have gone on killing sprees then we will check that against those committed in the name of Allah.

As they both do it often they should tally up together no?

I already have pointed to a few so you point is moote.

To be fair, Islam is about 600 years old and Trump frothing is only about 5 years old

Exactly.

Anyway I am fairly sure the fatwa was called off years ago so this guy was actually going against that.

I think my point was, take it as it is and Rushdie would not want this to be hijacked by the right. I don't understand why Trump came into it.

A certain Mr Tony Edwards introduced it as balance he thought to radical Islam.

However we have the lone nutter syndrome here and all blame must lie in his interpretation of his scripture alone.

Blame Tony, think he got all worked up from the trump thread in SC and decided to come into this one and start frothing and throwing around hyperbole

No that isnt what happened. But it is real at this moment in time. People are killing people over Trump. That is more insane than someone killing people over thinking their god was insulted.

It would have stopped at the first mention if the usual suspects hadnt been NO no Trump supporter has killed anyone. But you cant help yourselves.

Wrong:

Many Muslims accused Rushdie of blasphemy or unbelief and in 1989 the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini of Iran issued a fatwa ordering Muslims to kill Rushdie. Numerous killings, attempted killings (including against Rushdie himself), and bombings resulted in response to the novel.[1]

The Iranian government backed the fatwa against Rushdie until 1998, when the succeeding government of Iranian President Mohammad Khatami said it no longer supported the killing of Rushdie.[2] However, a fatwa cannot be revoked in Islamic tradition.[3] Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei reiterated in 2017 that the fatwa was still in effect[4]. Even as late as 2019, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, the successor to Ayatollah Khomeini, insisted that the fatwa against Salman Rushdie is "solid and irrevocable".[

In recent times Muslim clerics have actually increased the bounty payable on the killing of Rushdie by about half a million pounds (from memory).

For that you would need to question Tony Edwards, who introduced Trump to this thread in post #86, although calling him "the right" might get him a little agitated :)

@Tony Edwards I am not getting into an argument with whataboutism. This thread is about a tragic attack on a writer of repute. Nothing more or less. You discredit it.

Course he does. He's a troll. Nobody on this forum does more to get threads shut down with their trolling when they don't like the subject matter than him.

Anyway the big thing of note here is that the fatwa was called off years ago.
er..

yes I just read that. I think I found an article about the guy calling it off but it didnt then lead on.

Course he does. He's a troll. Nobody on this forum does more to get threads shut down with their trolling when they don't like the subject matter than him.

Why can you not just carry on with the thread rather than post nonsense? That is how discussion works. less time spent being a little girl more time discussing.

I think it is fairly interesting and very scary that Trump has been elevated to such a level that armed people are attacking the FBI, Congress, killing their neighbours and threatening civil war because of him. That is some scary ****.

So why don't you start a thread about trump and his supporters? You know, instead of derailing this one that has zero to do with trump.

Why dont you just carry on with the discussion? If you dont like what I said ignore it.
Because he's a troll and desperately wants the thread shut down.

Of course I dont want it shut. Why would I? It seems you want it shut because it has brought up something you want to deny.

You are doing cancel culture in the hope a certain mod will come and ban me from the thread like usual.

what they both published caused criminal actions - obvious comparison -

The similar Charlie-ebdo attack (recent sentencing) was linked with al-queda, so, was surprised, no suggestion, Salman attack as having a connection with Biden Afghanistan/Al-quada killing.

( bbc podcast which discusses how his book probably wouldn't be published today .. whether the bible would be.
but the I'll defend their right to say it ethic has it's limitation Nazi propoganda, fake news on Covid vaccines. )

There is no link at all. People aren't going out to harm others on the word of Rushdie. They're doing it because of Islam.
