Samsung Galaxy Note: 5.3", 1200x800 SuperAMOLED, S-PEN stylus, 2500mAh attery... *phew*

So i've now installed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2197504 Its essentially a cleaned up version of JB with a load of tweaks to improve speed. Been running it for over a week now and theres no sign of slowdown yet, runs very well and has most of the cool stuff from the official samsung JB release.

All those having issues with the official jellybean update i would highly recommend putting this on - had it going for over a month and its running very smoothly still :)

If I update to this official JB am I going to lose root on phone?

I am a little reluctant to update this at the moment or use one of the custom JB ROMs as I know this phone has the infamous brick bug :confused:

Installed the update yesterday afternoon , so far seems fine 45% battery left with 3hrs 37 mins screen time . Cant say i have noticed it any smoother but its not any worse than before.
Is the brick bug fixed in this update now so i could flash anything on it without worry.

Crikey, used Google maps to get directions this afternoon. The phone was at 99% when I took it off the charger, 10 min of maps with GPS then popped it in my pocket. 2 hrs later the phone only has 20% battery left! It's almost unusable unless you have access to a charger all the time.

I have gripes with the battery life with the ICS system - the update notification has been popping up on my phone for the last couple of days now and after reading all your comments it sounds like its going to make it a lot worse.

Anyone have positive thoughts about the update

Probably a dumb question , but how do i remove that tab thingy thats in the middle of the left side of the screen.
Dont know how it appeared but its handy but annoying when its there in my browser.

Is Kies on a Mac just about the worst thing ever? I'm struggling to get it to anything, and have been struggling for some months!
Trying to backup my Note and it has been stuck on the photos, 2% of the way through, for almost 20 minutes. There's only 1600 images and the progress bar isn't moving. What gives?
Whats it like on a PC under Windows 7?

Yep its the worst pile of unusable garbage in the history of software.

Can't you just plug the phone in via USB and drag them off the phone into a folder?

In Windows the phone appears as a removable device so I just access it that way. Go into the DCIM folder and simply copy them all to the folder of your choice. No need for Kies at all.

Well after I wasnt saying I was going to update to new software my little sister accepted it. Went and reset the whole phone - seems to be running quite smoothly not too sure about battery life either. Will see what happens over next few days

After continued harassment by the phone to install the update I finally relented. I had to do it via the abortion that is Kies as it was no go OTA for some reason.

Did a data wipe / format and full factory reset before hand and I am finding the battery life is considerably better than it was previously but I had a ton of junk installed on the old ICS OS. I like it but it was hassle to set the whole thing up again after the data wipe.

I managed to ket Kies working on my Windows 7 desktop and after a few updates it recognised the phone was connected and did its thing.
I did a factory reset and installed only a few must have Apps. The battery life still isn't as it was though and I'm getting well under 8hrs still.

Has anyone else suffered much worse battery drain since the Note went to 4.1.2? I'm getting circa 30% time out of my battery now and much much worse performance. The thing keeps locking up when running apps that previously ran very smoothly. Really frustrating.
