Samsung Galaxy Note: 5.3", 1200x800 SuperAMOLED, S-PEN stylus, 2500mAh attery... *phew*

Got it about a month ago on my German Note.

+1.
I have had my JellyBean update about 3-4 weeks.
I must admit, I am not overly impressed, I have noticed a considerable reduction in battery life, since upgrading Firmware.
4.0.2 = 24-48 Hours.
4.1.2 = 18-30 Hours.

Today for examaple: 100% Charge
18.03 Hours From Charger.
15~ Hours Standby.
3~ Hours Screen on (Some light internet usage + Reading a book)
An I am at 5% Charge.

I Disable all unused functions, an clear memory while in standby.
An even still the Phone wakes up (Screen Kept Off) while in standby mode, an does some unusual processing.
In actual fact; I might try a factory reset later to see it that helps maters.

PS: Still love the physical hardware + screen. An will by hard push'ed to upgrade to the Note3, when it's announced.
Especially considering the Exynos 5 (Galazy S4) is only 4 Cores + 2GB Ram: Its not a revolution in hardware upgrades...

So I've got my hands on a new Galaxy Note(previous phone was an HTC Desire), I like it but what I don't understand is why people say it's large or call it a phablet. It has about the same dimesnions as an average pocket calculator and I'd say that's an almost perfect size for a smartphone. Can't ever see myself using something smaller of my own free will.

It's soo powerful you won't know what to do with it.

Ohh I agree.
My Galazy Note, is more than powerful enough for my normal usage:
Calls + Txt's.
Internet.
Books.
Music.
Movies. (720P)
2D Games.
But some of the more modern 3D Games or Benchmarks it struggles.

My annoyance with the (Galaxy S4 + Note 3) that utilizes the Exynos 5 SOC; It's a total cop-out on Samsung's part -
Option 1: 8 Core SOC. Only 4 Core utilization available.
Option 2: 8 Core SOC. Full 8 Core utilization available.

An Samsung opted to bundle option 1, in the S4 regardless of our regions. :o
At least with option 2, are phones would have 50% more performance over the S3. An IF it wasn't needed, then it wouldn't be used.
Especially considering the S4 + Note3, will be Samsung's flagship phones.

May be I am alone, in this mindset.
I just was highly disappointed, when they marketed it as 8 core, an joe-public will believe them.
But with Samsung asking £500+ I has hopping for more from the hardware...

Possibly! :( I was also experiencing calls not having a ring tone too, and It took multiple phone restarts for text messages to come through!, I hope they have fixed this problem in my area as it was hopeless trying to do anything.
been on the phone to Samsung and apparently my Note had faults and they were awaiting parts that were due to arrive today.:(

i'll not go into how bad the customer service has been, but i should get it back within the next 7 working days they say.

Ouch :( well my phones been fine for the last few days so I'm hoping that it was true what the guy in p4u said, ad it is now sorted. But if it happens again then a call will be made to have the phone looked at.

been having a bit of a play around with Roms again of late, here are my 'findings':

Got fed up waiting for the official JB update to come out so i installed the stock rom via ODIN (on a VM which was kind of nerve racking). Nice but very cluttered system, horribly slow though - all the extra stuff just seemed to slow the note down to a crawl, even to the point that swiftkey would take an annoyingly long amount of time to appear :(

Started looking at the note 2 but trying to stick to the mantra of skipping a generation so tried out CM10.1 - much faster and many of the JB benefits (without the samsung bloat) but a number of things were really annoying - the biggest bug bare was that no matter what i tried i couldn't get large files to copy to the devise reliably. As i use the phone to watch films/tv shows on the train thats a big no-no!

So i've now installed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2197504 Its essentially a cleaned up version of JB with a load of tweaks to improve speed. Been running it for over a week now and theres no sign of slowdown yet, runs very well and has most of the cool stuff from the official samsung JB release.

My only current bugbear is that the gallery seems to take ages to load, but that could just be the amount of images i've got floating around on the system!

got the phone back yesterday and they say they have installed the latest approved software (shows Android 4.0.4).

they say the following was diagnosed as a fault/worn out, or general mechanical defect.

shall have to send them an email and ask what the above means.

My phone upgraded to 4.1.2 the other day and the battery life is through the floor! I'm only getting 6-8hrs on a full charge now. This afternoon the battery was at about 50% I took a couple of photos, about 1 minute of video and the battery was dead and the phone switched off about 30 minutes later.

Whats the fix for this if any? Root and install a custom ICS ROM?

Did anyone notice the 2 year 48Gb free Dropbox upgrade that came with the update?! :)

Give paranoid android a go, it's delicious.

Great news - did you do it OTA or via Kies?

Sorry forgot to say that it was via kies. Although at the moment I am wishing I hadn't bothered as it seems to run slower and keeps claiming the SD card is corrupt when it is fine on other devices. Looks like I may not be the only one suffering from this issue either :(

Same here ever since the update my phones battery life has took a nose dive. Also as you have said the phone is slow and laggy in places :( not a good start...
