Samsung Galaxy Note: 5.3", 1200x800 SuperAMOLED, S-PEN stylus, 2500mAh attery... *phew*

I made a mockup out of cardboard to see how big it really is. Note I'm a skinny guy.
It is surprisingly pocketable. I have it in my front jeans pocket now.
I'd say the length is 'perfect' in that I can sit down in my office chair, and bend over and touch my toes without it sticking into me. I would not be able to do this if it was say, 5mm longer. Or if something is under it (like say, my keys).

The thinness means there is plenty of room - hell, I have had my mytouch 4g+trident cyclops case in the same pocket.
I am thinking it would be fine with a case. I wonder how big an extended (5700 mah?) Seido battery would be.
I don't think it would look that out of place.

Other notes:
I have big hands. So one handed holding is absolutely no problem.
One handed use - not great. My thumb can't reach to the other side of the LCD.
Normal web browing/some apps are fine but texting/typing...... not without a custom keyboard.

After fake playing with it for a bit, it is clear that it is just a small tablet.
It has a stylus so you can comfortably use larger tablet apps.
For network stuff you can get online via cellular networks too.
Those who want a convenient (pocket sized) tablet will feel right at home.

Oh yeah, and you can also make phone calls with it. (just like any tablet, with skype, to be honest).

But those of you who just want a phone - the ergonomics just aren't great.
Those of you without big hands will probably find it just awkward to hold with one hand.
And I really think the earpiece and microphone are getting too far apart.

My opinion, then? For me, it's almost perfect.
I spend maybe 1-2% of the time holding the phone to my head making calls. Those calls are very short.
The rest of the time I am running apps and/or talking on the headset. The large screen is therefore fantastic.

One thing that will be slightly annoying is I won't be able to do certain things when I'm eating.
But I'll live with that.

I'm still up in the air about the Galaxy Nexus and was looking here today to see how big the note really is in comparison. What surprised me is how big the Galaxy Nexus is compared to handsets like the HTC HD2 and SGS2. There's not a huge amount in it so the Galaxy Note might be worth it for the extra screen, battery and components than the SGN.

Personnally I thought the SGS2 was a touch too big. 4" with more rounded corners/shape to improve ergonomics would be spot on for a phone. (but then I guess this is designed as something a bit more than just a phone).
Glad they kept a pyhsical home button, it's a very useful thing to have, but still confused by the back and menu button positions. Surely it would make more sense to have the back button on the left and the menu button on the right..?

I've lived quite comfortably with my Dell streak, which is a similar size. Fits with room to spare in my Suit jacket inside pocket. I don't make a great deal of calls but it does the job and if you're image conscious you could always use a handsfree setup. Great work phone for notes/calendars/emails etc and makes for a brilliant GPS.

Where it falls down is when I'm in casual clothing - It's too big to ignore when it's in a trouser pocket, I'm constant worried I'll break it. Currently looking at the Nexus Prime as a potential replacement once prices come down a bit.

I don't think you're going to find the Galaxy Nexus that much different to be honest. Looking at the stats it's actually quite a large handset. From the link I gave above you can see it next to other handsets, here's a pic of the SGS2, SGN, SG Note and Dell Streak. The difference between the SGN and Note really doesn't seem that much and definitely puts it onto my list for consideration.

I think the Nexus is definitely the one to go for out of those to be honest.

You would look like a right pleb with the Note (especially in white) against your head! :p

They both look good though.

Bluetooth headset = sorted. This is going to be an awesome business/pleasure/travel device, cant wait to see one in person so i can give it the pocket test etc.
