Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

Whats the regedit for?

The regedit u can open from run command that where the file is sitting after install that usual with oldet version so u can remove kies folder which is fully clean out.... Regedit is registry editor which u can open by start > run command > type regedit then there are big files of registry listing so be careful when u delete.... It easy do the job

For those that regedit forced Kies to download 2.2 a while back, I found it would not download gingerbread. I found the old regedit kies trick changed the product code away from the needed KEU. You will have to change your product code on you SGS to get gingerbread on kies.

I must be in the minority :)
Downloaded and installed Kies on a laptop running W7 64bit.
Attached unlocked Galaxy S.
Informed there was a new ROM available - did I wish to download/install it.
Backed-up all the data from the phone.
ROM update downloaded and installed.

Phone now running Gingerbread.

Anyone gone CM7 yet?

I have froyo tweaked to the max OC/UV etc not really interest in Samsung gingerbread but CM7 is awesome, but the battery life and possible bugs concerns me. Any experiences?

Yes, Voodoo. Phone is a bit snappier with it. :)

Any way to make it work on JVO or do I have to flash with a custom ROM?

Does it work with Darky's?

I'm interested in the lagfix and DAC fix (even more in the latter) as it's supposed to unleash the audio playback potential this phone has.

Cool, thanks for that. It'd be great to hear your opinions on the ROM.

Yes, I've been using bleeding edge CM7 builds for the last month or so. It's not even officially at BETA stage yet, but in reality it's a lot more stable and complete than many release ROMs. It's also blisteringly quick and is a proper ROM, not a 'photoshop' ROM like most of the ones based on Samsung builds. Maybe that's a bit harsh, but CM7 is made from the ground up from AOSP sources, so it's on 2.3.4 and has all the latest features Android can offer (although video calling has been pulled from gapps for now). There are some bugs here and there, none serious in my opinion, but the 2G/3G toggle is problematic and there is still no FM Radio support (if you ever use that). The camera isn't quite up to the standard of the Samsung one, but it's making leaps forward recently.

People's main concern is the battery life it seems, and I struggle to get 2 days (haven't managed yet) where on Samsung based ROMs I can get up to 5 days on my usage. Maybe that's because I play with it more with CM7, but it's definitely behind on that front. The reasons for this are numerous, and I don't think CM7 will ever have the best, or even near best battery life on the SGS. That said, it's improved dramatically recently according to earlier adopters. If you need more than 24hrs on heavy/moderate usage, go elsewhere. If you're not happy being a BETA tester, go elsewhere. Simple as that really. Above all though, have fun with it! SGS is a great handset and CM7 gives it a new lease of life!

Cheers for that, that's what I thought it was.

I meant that the Darky's uses JVH that was supported officially by the Voodoo lagfix and my JVO wasn't so I thought that flashing with a custom ROM would be the best option since I was going to try one of the custom ROM's out anyway :)

I wouldnt bother personally, especially one like Darky's. Years i've spent with custom ROM's and now i just use a normal ROM modified to my spec.
Stablity is the thing i need most from a phone. Changing the file system over to Ext4 and removing all the Samsung crap is all the Galaxy S needs.

Thats basically what I do, dont even change to EXT4, works fine without it. Just basically look for deoxed roms and just apply a theme and kernel I like, thats what most of the roms offer most of the times anyways, expect CM7 or MIUI
