Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

Is the official 2.3.3 update available now and does it solve the battery drain issue?

To answer your two questions in order, yes and no!

We are now waiting for Samung to release 2.3.4 which will hopefully address this issue, although there are plenty of custon ROM developers who claim to have done so already!

Not all users are convinced however, so unless you enjoy 'tinkering' with your phone, and flashing different custom ROMs (and there are plenty who do!) then you are probably better off waiting to see what Samsung themselves will come up with.

That's the way I see it anyway, although others may think differently! ;)

ok, so I feel like a right dullard having my phone for a year and still not fixing this problem:

My contacts list shows just people I've stored on my phone, no mess there. However if I go to Messaging>Compose>Contacts I get a massive list of everyone I've ever emailed through gmail :( How can I trim the fat there and just show my actual contacts?

reading this http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=17079417 and changing the contacts shown doesn't change anything for me?

FuguMod bleeding edge ultra supposedly uses the last repo and solves the drain issue. I've been using it and it seems great!

Could someone help me out with the Mini usb port on my Galaxy S. My data cable from the PC is no longer working. If I use another its working however the end of the cable no longer 'clicks' as its pushed into the port. I am sure it used to snap in with a reassuriing click. Phones about 10 months so I am worried now it my fail soon.

updater can't go from 2.1 to 2.3 without stopping on 2.2 to update the bootloader so you might be OK - does that answer your question? If you mean say 2.2 to 2.2.1 I'm not too sure sorry but you could just flash it with ODIN anyway.

Is it possible to upgrade to 2.2.1 on the official updater or does it just offer what is latest?

I don't want to chance 2.3.3 with the battery life issues.

Just flash with ODIN instead, it's safer and more reliable than the 'official' method anyway. I think it's what Samsung themselves use. The later Froyo ROMs are still some of the best.

Well, it came from Samsung originally! ;)

Rather than trying to explain all the download options, you might like to have a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881 which contains an alternative download link to the one I quoted earlier, and is probably the one I will be using to update mine very shortly!

It also contains very detailed instructions as to the best way to upgrade from the various versions.
