Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

Battery on this is mad lol. two days in a row it was doing well, the whole day and it was drowning about 50-60%. The next day it had gone through 75% in 6 hours.

yesterday/today - 1d 8h and its on 25%. It has gone through about 25% in the last few hours though I think... used it a bit more Display been on for 3h 3m so not THAT much I guess...

What is using most of the battery according to the monitor? Also, what ROM, kernel, modem etc are you using?

Smartphone battery usage seems to be utterly random :P.

Only to those who don't understand why it's draining fast. Which includes just about everyone, as well as Samsung it seems in some occasions. Quite often it can be solved, but Gingerbread seems to have more problems than Froyo.

1d 9h 28m, <10% battery. On charge now

Display is top at the moment, 44%, wi-fi 12% etc etc

2.3.3, DarkyRom 10.1, ummm... Kernel version is like 2.6.35.7-I900............ :p

Hey guys, been on MIUI rom for awhile now and starting to get bored/annoyed my battery is dieing so quickly since I use my phone a lot and it hardly ever survives 15 hours which I need on long days.

Was just wondering what the stock gingerbread rom you guys would recommend. Gonna try just use a stock rom + some kernel and customize it to my liking so any advice is welcome. cheers.

The latest stock ROM to be leaked is JVP which has received some good feedback over on XDA.

It is available from there, from samfirmware, and a few other places also.

Plenty of customisation too, if you are that way inclined, but even the basic battery performance seems to have been improved.

I was in exactly your position (still awaiting the custom MIUI from galnet on XDA though, who claims he gets 2 and a bit days of battery life from it), so I tried various JVP ROMs, including a romkitchen version, the F1 GSII, but I finally settled on Juwes ROM, which is still pretty slick. It's nowhere near as good as MIUI, but I think it's as good as a photoshop Samsung ROM can get. The default kernel isn't bad, but maybe try Speedmod K8 or Tegraks to see which you like best.

Yeah, really like the MIUI rom, I'm on the stock rom which people said it was as good as stock but not really seeing it, reached home with like 9% battery and on stock I would have around 45%-55%. I have Juwes a try but it kept messing up whenever I tried to use wifi, would get non stock reboot cycle. I'll give it another try, if it acts up just stick with some stock + theme + kernel lols. thanks for the advice dude and if u get galnet MIUI leave a quick review :D.

Install stock xxjvp via Odin, then download romads deodexed xxjvp and Hardcores speedmod, I use T6, flash speedmod via Odin, reboot as normal and then reboot to recovery and flash Ramads Rom, reboot as normal again.
Flash speedmod, boot into recovery and reflash speedmod as romads Rom has cwm3 only Support... enjoy.

I easily get 2 days use with this Rom ;-)

Can anyone offer a direct comparison between jvp and CM7?

I went from froyo to CM7, which is very slick but I'm kinda missing the performant video record and playback. If jvp + lagfixes is close to CM7 for slickness I may consider swapping over.

It's not. I tried JVP and it's still not as smooth and fast as CM7, but the battery life is heaps better and the HD video recording works properly. There's less and less in it as the Samsung ROMs slowly get better, but I can't measure 'slickness' so my suggestion would be to try it for yourself and see. :)

Had started having some issues lately with the phone, slowdown and apps starting to fail.
Decided I might as well give the latest stock rom a try before going the custom option...
Just trying to tidy away all the Samsung **** that it installs, God bless you Titanium Backup...

Quite impressed by the speed so far, this is with no speedmod.
Not sure how to get the default Android theme back though... I hate this "sweep glass to unlock" screen, it's not convenient. I like the proper screen, slide right to unlock and slide left to put into silent. :(
Edit: Hmm, just looked at the instructions for this... Pain. :(

Will customise this further and then check out what the battery life is like. Hopefully it all goes well.

PiKe, can try Cut the Rope for you, have never played it actually...
