Samsung Galaxy S2 vs HTC Sensation

I was at a function yesterday with some friends/family and going round recording people and generally the fun stuff going on. Every time someone asked if "is that the Galaxy?" I didn't really go into details about it and just said it's the new S2 and let them have a play themselves and noted the comments they came out with.

Top 3 were:
1: Such a large/clear screen.
2: Deceivingly lightweight, one person said they were fed up with having to hold their pocket while running for the train to work etc because the phone flapped around in their pocket. he was a Desire owner.
3: Amazing camera.

One person I let go around using the camcorder had a new Wildfire S, I took that off her for a bit and had a play. For such a dinky phone it felt like it weighed more than the S2 even though it was all plastic (not checked the paper spec) but it looked and felt quite nice in the hand..but that's for another thread :p

Replied to a post of yours in which you'd photographed an old 3GS thinking it was a 4? You've changed the pic now ;)

Erm no, I thought you were having a sarcy joke about the GSII looking like an iPhone.

No pictures have been replaced and that is an iPhone 4 in the photo.

It would probably still flap wouldn't it? I've never really noticed any flapping with any phone

Seems a bit of an odd point to make!

It will feel quite nice in the hand given how small (and nasty ) it is? :p

The Wildfire S weighs 11g less, so it would probably be hard to tell the difference between the weights.

It may well be the illusion of a bigger difference than it actually is then, the Wildfire S is so small that all that weight in a "pebble" feels heavier than the GS II which you immediately expect to weigh a look looking at it.

About the flapping about though, I wear trousers to work and many a time the Desire did tap tap tap against my leg and if I walked with a bit of a pace pace then even more so!

Not so with the GSII, 1: It's flat and thin and 1: it's light so both those things combined means it fits flush in the pocket without being noticed!

Must admit that I like the look of the HTC, I think that, at a glance, it just looks a lot more solid and robust than the SGS2. I'm still happy with my Sammy though. :p

Brief picture comparison (bear in mind the Sensation is at a widescreen res by default and I left it at that), everything is default settings.

SGS2 Close up - Here

Sensation Close up - Here

Sensation, further out - Here

Draw from that what you will but I think its pretty clear you'll get a good picture with either phone in situations like the above. I'll do a better and more accurate test in future but I thought those pictures were pretty good.

What colour are the flowers in the far right in real life?

SGS2 has them purple, Sensation has em blue.

Also, the leaves are green with the SGS2, more yellowy tint with the Sensation.

I was gonna ask that Krooton. The blue/purple flowers vary to a rather large degree in those photos.

To me the SGS2 looks much more natural, the leaves in particular, however it's impossible to tell for sure without actually seeing the real thing. Neither photo is bad, but the colour variation is quite large so whichever is closest is certainly better in my eyes.

In the two close-ups the SGS II is miles better both in terms of details but also in reproducing a more natural tone to the colours. Put them both side-by-side and zoom in and you will see what I mean. The Sensation is pretty damn horrible in comparison.

While i would like to try and stay neutral in this, not having tried a sensation yet, i have to say you're right. Zooming in on the fountain itself shows a shed load more texture in the fountain itself in the SGS2 pic.

Still a massive leap forward for a HTC camera though.

It's really really noticeable, almost shockingly so... and Robbo im a bit surprised you can actually say that there's little difference and keep a straight face! :p

In the pic you posted I would say in all honestly that the SGS II is at least 2x better in detail resolution and clarity.

The flowers are purple, not blue (I think, I'll have to double check :p)!

There is quite a big difference, upon inspection, you're right. My girlfriend who likes photography said the same thing and looked quite appalled at me :(

I'll take some more if you like so you can get a better idea. I'll set the resolutions to non-widescreen so its fairer, too.
