Samsung Galaxy S2 vs HTC Sensation

How can sense be so slow? It isnt slow on the Desire. Have they broken it?

Apparently it is taking up a lot of the phone memory, so once Android loads up its multi-tasking the phone can get sluggish.

I'm not sure if there is much truth to this but it is being mentioned quite a lot recently.

I don't really get the free ram thing. If it's free then by definition nothing is using it and nothing needs to. Who cares if I've got 500 or 5 free.
Android suspends apps pretty well when it needs more ram for the current process. I guess it's just a numbers thing.

Don't get me wrong, I think HTC should have put 1GB in and it sucks that Sense uses so much but I don't think it is what will kill the phone.

The locked boot loader will do that :(

It looks like HTC are hearing what the masses are saying!!

People always said that about the Desire though. Half of these people seem to rely on useless Quadrant scores rather than real world useage.

Maybe, but I could certainly slow my Desire down depending on what I was doing. The Desire HD was quite a big improvement on that front.

I'd be surprised if the Sensation suffered badly from this, it shouldn't.

^ That's probably down to a newer OS revision (and extra memory)

It's worth noting all these early Sensation reviews/Vids have extra Vodafone bloat to cope with. They usually stuff up the phone good and proper... don't they? :D

That guy has such an annoying voice. :(

Wow, that video really shows just how good the Galaxy S II really is. The screen is so much nicer as well.

Odd video, how come it didnt load the second page at all? It didn't even attempt to load it, and he took that as just 'victory for the Galaxy S 2!!' rather than finding out and explaining what went wrong. Network issues?

It's on Wireless (both of them in fact) so not a network issue, probably something else but a bit strange nonetheless. Android's browser is WebKit so both should render the same as well although hardware acceleration will help certain devices here I guess.

I've not been able to get some time aside yet sadly to compare.

speed was less important to me as their both generally quick - it's the fluidity of the scrolling on the SGS2 that wins hands down IMO.

Well, you'll all be glad to hear that HTC has promised to remove the locked bootloader from the Sensation today!! yaaay! - I got a tweet from HTC about it earlier today and was wondering what all the fuss was about lol.

My contract is up for upgrade on 2nd July and I'm torn between these two phones aswell. However, I am biased towards HTC due to the HTC Sense interface - I love it to pieces and missed it sorely when I ended up 'downgrading' from a Legend to a Sanfrancisco so much that I ended up with loads of widgets to make it "sense-like". However its still not as good as the real deal. Sense just works - One flick this way I got access to my facebook and twitter, flick the other way I got my calendar etc - Sorry SGSII owners - I just REALLY miss it lol.

I had a quick play with my mates SGSII - Yes it was fast, but ewww - I can't stand that Touchy wizzy interface it seems so yesteryear!. That and the fact I found the samsung too thin and light - WOOOT you say? - yep, I like my phone to have a feeling of 'its there' and the samsung is a bit 'toy like' (No diss intended guys - just my pov). Just in case it goes in my back pocket and I sit on it for example - The HTC won't bend as much as the Sammy with its plastic all-round surround.

In terms of size - I have a HTC mozart as my work phone - If the Sensation is the same I'm sold - anyone? Is it the same dimensions? thanks.

HTC sense launcher does nothing for me personally - I have set up my SGS2 exactly as I had it on my Desire which includes the widgets you mentioned via launcher pro+. Outside the sense launcher TW4 is pretty much the same as sense with added bonus off an all format gpu accelerated video player.

Have they actually said they're removing it yet, all I've seen so far was just a facebook mention that 'We’re reviewing the issue and our policy around bootloaders'

So not definitive yet, but will be by your upgrade time at least :)

Same really, LauncherPro+'s widgets are awesome, although I have no interest in Facebook/Twitter so that rules out a large amount of the Sense goodness and makes it just 'bloat' :p

That is good if true, they pretty much had no choice though.

You can easily get those features without Sense, Sense looks nice but with a bit of effort you can get pretty much everything fairly similar.

I agree TouchWiz isn't the best looking thing ever, but once you actually get used to it and customise it a bit, its actually quite impressive.

Phones are all going to get thinner and eventually lighter one day.

If you sit on either phone in your back pocket I'd say they are both at equal risk of being damaged. The SGS2 is very solid, it could take quite a hammering.

The Mozart is a 3.7" screen, the Sensation is a 4.3" screen. Its going to be quite a lot bigger on the whole.
