Samsung Galaxy S2 vs HTC Sensation

yeah they tweeted about it today - thats what prompted me to look into the HTC Sensation as I was set on getting the SGSII!

I've got LauncherPro running on my SanFrancisco and tbh its just not got the same slickness. Plus tbh I'm a sucker for the nice little animations on the Sense interface and the new HTCsense.com website features.

I find the HTC Sense interface hangs together better with integrating my contacts with facebook etc. Each to their own - don't get me wrong guys I know the SGSII is slightly better in terms of specs but tbh I like HTC - So many developers jump on board the HTC devices along with the fact I like to have something 'different' to the crowd ;)

Oh and Video playback doesn't bother me at all - not something I'd use it for but I wouldn't mind being able to stream 1080p HD content directly to a HDMI TV - Is that possible at all with either device? (x264 content like I do through my PS3?) I'd love to be able to use my phone when I go scotland for the weekend and hook it into a HD TV and play a movie or two on someone elses TV lol

oh no - I don't like bigger :( - A phone is a phone at the end of the day and other than picking up emails, facebookie stuff (and twitter) I'm not really into web browsing on them!

I'd say that most developers will be going for the SGS2 and may quite possibly end up porting Sense onto it. It can be done.

The Sensation will probably end up being very popular anyway, most people will just see its HTC and assume it is better as they have got a good reputation now. 'Standing out from the crowd' shouldn't bother you anyway. I don't get it.

lol - I like to be different - two of my colleagues have already got the SGSII, the rest have all got SGS's ;)

I've had all sorts of HTC's - ranging from M3100's all the way through to the HTC Mozart as my work phones, but as personal phones I've only had (other than piddly normal phones) The HTC HD2, Iphone 3GS, Samsung Galaxy (probably the reason I hate Samsung phones so much - as they take an age (if at all!!!) to release any official firmware updates), HTC Legend, now the San Francisco - Probably forgotten a few there but their the ones that come to mind.

After having the Original Samsung Galaxy (which they never released ANY official OS updates for) I swore never to touch Samsung phones again - maybe that and my love for Sense is whats swaying me that way.

Even with my HTC's I've usually always used the latest stock ROM's - I don't really see much benefit from custom rom's as I don't have time to keep flashing my phone with new stuff (losing all settings etc).

Samsung are no worse for updates than anyone else, they are going to be forced by Google to get updates out fast from now on anyway.

So you buy the phone that your colleagues DONT have just for the sake of it?

I'll say this again, people are giving really lame reasons for why they aren't getting SGS2, yeah, you like Sense, thats fine, but why all the extra nonsense? :p

It just seems to be that people are trying really hard to convince themselves not to get the Galaxy S II, which really is a testament to how good it is.

Have you got a link to the tweet, just read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095255

And it seems to just be the initial 'we're looking into it', no confirmation as yet (although you've got to imagine that they will now do it, but I'd never make that assumption :p)

EDIT:
Either way it may be too late, quite a few of the 'big' developers now have SGS2's due to the locked bootloader of the sensation...

I would just say, I was very intrested in the SG2 untill the other day I was using a friends Galaxy 1 and had to put 100mb of rubbish software on a PC just to copy off some videos/pictures... I assume the SG2 is the same so for Me it's just about as bad as iphone !

I don't think anyone would argue the amoled screen is stunning and if the sound is as good as the galaxy 1 that's another plus but for Me it ends there !

agreed - I'm trying REALLY hard to convince myself NOT to get the SGSII - Technically it is superior to the Sensation lol

BUT - I have given many reasons as to why I prefer the HTC - tbh - The form factor (i.e. size) is off-putting for both models for me......

My mind says SGSII, my heart says HTC lol - aaaaaarrrgggghhh

I'll try to find the tweet.....

Nope, you don't need to use Kies at all. Just plug it in and it mounts automatically, just like a memory pen would.

Oh, and the iPhone does this too, so I'm not sure what you are on about :p

Or use Kies Air and not even have to plug it in :)

Although tried that on my works network earlier and the wifi is seperate from the main network :( damn security crap getting in the way of making my phone easier to use :p

You would think so, unless the guy has somehow been able to lock out USB. However You need that samsung software to "manage" the phone

If you'd of switched on USB mass storage mode then you would'nt of had to install anything, it was probably in kies mode.

In what way?

Gimme a break , I'm not a samsung user, I use Android and windows phones that just work independant of crap software, Sure You will tell me there are ways of getting around these sorts of problems.
But for Me I've seen something I don't like and that's basically the end of it !

You could have said something useful like "the Galaxy s 11 is different " sadly You did not ;)

Sounds about right, Why does it not come up with the option on USB connect like other phones ? regardless It took half a hour to find the files which were scattered between the phone and storage card in various directory's

Give you a break? About what? What are you talking about? :p

Something you don't like? That Samsung have an OPTIONAL media manager you don't need to use, ever.

Thats exactly what I said, more or less.

If Samsung had used their PenTile technology in the screen then it would be no contest but the qHD Display is looking like a winner in the Sensation.

Yes the viewing angle isn't as good and looks more washed against the high contrast of AMOLED but it still is 480x800 (Old tech) more and more apps in the future are going to be designed and aimed at qHD displays IMO

For me at the moment is a toss up between the Sensation and Atrix!

The other thing that was swaying me towards the GS2 was DNLA but I've just read the Sensation also supports this now and will do USB to HDMI.

Two guys in my office both have the GS2 and another 4 have the GS1 and all just feel like they've been made my FisherPrice or The Early Learning Centre!!!

For now I would say if you've already got a HTC Desire/Galaxy S hold off untill Q42011/2012 Q1 on a rolling contract and see what the market is like then.

They have used something better than PenTile this time round...
