Samsung Galaxy S2 vs HTC Sensation

If Samsung had used their PenTile technology in the screen then it would be no contest but the qHD Display is looking like a winner in the Sensation.

Yes the viewing angle isn't as good and looks more washed against the high contrast of AMOLED but it still is 480x800 (Old tech) more and more apps in the future are going to be designed and aimed at qHD displays IMO

If Samsung used the pentile matrix it would be worse as this technology is old. SAMOLED+ uses a proper arrangement for the pixels and is very close to LCD screens.

Resolution matters very little here and it's a bit of a stretch calling 840x480 old tech and there has been no confirmation from any source/dev saying apps are shifting to qHD only at any point now or in the near future.

If you look at comparison videos of the GSII and Sensation side by side you can easily see that what's on screen on both phones is neck and neck. It's not like HTC have allowed the Sensation to fit an extra row of icons on the app tray or homescreen.

I didnt notice much if any difference screen wise between them. The Sensations extra resolution isn't really noticeable and neither is the Samsungs 'better' screen.

People who don't like the form factor on the Galaxy S2 must be female or massively hormone deficient, because I have small hands for a man but it still fits perfectly in my grip. With my left thumb over the pin reset hole at top left, the bottom right corner rests on my little finger; with left thumb on the volume rocker, the arc of my thumb perfectly traverses from the rocker to the home button and my left forefinger rests on the power button.

The screen of the GS II is immediately obvious as soon as you get indoors under ambient lighting or look at it from any angle other than head on as it looks the same from any angle whereas no non AMOLED does. The angles point most especially as when you're showing a video to a bunch of people on the phone the colours you see won't be the same colours your mate sees far right.

That and colour vibrancy although this can be turned down on the Samsung as there are 3 colour modes available.

I suppose in a shop it might not be so obvious but there is quite a clear difference.

The Atrix is old news now and seems to have been forgotten.

I was just reading about the PenTile on T3 website

"The display boasts a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution"

Ok granted this is for the tablet market but I don't see why they couldn't have made a qHD version.

I read a lot of ebooks on my HTC Desire (which isn't to bad) but the extra real estate from the qHD will be very welcome.

Don't get me wrong I think OLED is far superior to LCD it just would have been nice to see an higher resolution and that is why I'm not going to jump on the lets get the latest and greatest phone right now, as the Desire is adequate enough for another 6 months or so...

then we can see if qHD has taken off or what new technology is coming out. 24 month contract is a long time and not all of us can afforde to spend £500 on a new phone when one comes out.

I've been visiting the local phone stores all week trying to get a glimpse of these handsets. No one has a sensation around here yet and all of the galaxies are locked onto the stand thingies.

So far though, the galaxy is not doing it for me. I appreciate it is the higher spec'd handset but it feels *too* light and there's something a bit 90s about the interface.

I hate waiting.

Gimme a break , I'm not a samsung user, I use Android and windows phones that just work independant of crap software, Sure You will tell me there are ways of getting around these sorts of problems.
But for Me I've seen something I don't like and that's basically the end of it !

You could have said something useful like "the Galaxy s 11 is different " sadly You did not ;)

What? He told you that you don't need to use the Samsung software. The phone even comes with an app on it that lets you manage it over wi-fi using your PC's web browser. Your assumption that you're forced to use Samsung software was wrong.

Two guys in my office both have the GS2 and another 4 have the GS1 and all just feel like they've been made my FisherPrice or The Early Learning Centre!!!

They must be making some premium products these days then, because the SGS2 is nothing short of very solid and well put-together. It's testament to the fact that you don't need an all-metal body to have fantastic build quality.

Sounds about right, Why does it not come up with the option on USB connect like other phones ? regardless It took half a hour to find the files which were scattered between the phone and storage card in various directory's

Wow, you must really suck. :p It works just like any other Android phone. You don't need to install any software at all as Robbo pointed out before you threw all of your toys out of the pram at him.

Thanks !

I could rip into You but what's the point ? Some of You guys will seem to defend you Toys Like Your life depends on it !

I'd say that most developers will be going for the SGS2 and may quite possibly end up porting Sense onto it. It can be done.

Sadly, this is never the case, I do like Sense myself, and wish it was ported to other phones, but sadly, the most you'll likely see if the HTC Keyboard..

I've now seen both side by side, and quite frankly, I can't see what the big ooh-ahh is in this thread, both seem superb as smartphones, there is a lot of superlative nonsense going on IMO.

Screenwise, AMOLED is immediately obvious when viewed side by side with the Sensation, but actually, in isolation, even the Sensation's screen is bright/vivid and more then up to the job, although the qHD resolution seems wasted on the Sense UI, only viewing some webpages in very small fonts showed any appreciable difference, crucially, they both suck balls big time as soon as you get any strong light shining on them.

The biggest difference I noted was simply TW vs SENSE, both where slick as you like, even the cameras seemed to give almost identically reasonable performance..

I do think the SGS2 ticks a few more boxes on paper, but it's not like the Sensation is crap because it's slightly worse on a couple of things, if someone likes Sense, and likes how the Sensations feels in the hand, I can't say I feel that I need to bash them on the head with a keyboard to tell them how idiotic they must be for not buying the SGS2..

Saying all that, I have still recommended several people getting new phones to get the SGS2, as they haven't been used to HTC Sense, it seemed the automatic choice..
