Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Tablet

HI kona i just receive my nexus 7 today and i am quite disappointing in the screen,it looks worse than my 4 year old laptop (in terms of color vibrancy),going to sell it off at maybe a slight profit and go with this tab, seems a good time to get one now that they have updated it with a fairly recent version of android (android 4.0.4 came out in march of this year i believe).

Will update when i get one, which will probably be in a few weeks,if anyone here happens to want to sell me there's at a reasonable price i might be interested :)

Don't blame you - I try and only go for SAMOLED/+ devices now.

The screen on the 7.7 is just gorgeous - I probably wouldn't even swap a retina spec LCD for this lush 720p SAMOLED+.

Now the 7.7's got ICS - It runs beautifully.

Have you compared it against the ipad 3?

check again? where did you buys yours from?

Boy this firmware download is slow - 60% after ten minutes - 500KB/s.

I've now got the latest version of Kies but it still won't update the firmware saying i have the latest version "PDA:LA1/CSC:LA1 (TGY)". I brought the devise from Hong Kong which i guess is the reason why it won't update but does anyone know if there a way round this?

thep02 maybe able to help you - he got his from HK too. Don't think the update is out for yours yet though.

Odin may be the way to do it - I'm no expert at that though.

Correct in the former meager in the later, I don't think we HK folk have the official UK release, me and the lads are gona look at tabs at the weekend, the tabs are theirs so I haven't rooted them, NO ONE should take any sort of tech advice from me outside of purchasing!!!, We defo want ICS so I'll prob root them install ICS then unroot.

I'll probably read loads of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1454112 then watch YT vids.

I rooted my Note twice the second time simply by down loading some files to my sd card and rooted it from that with a few v v easy actions.

Reading that thread should answer all your questions.

Mine is also a HK device. Never really bothered with Kies on the 7.7 or my S3.

I flashed the ICS stock ROM today via ODIN. Had some issues but expect that was due to coming from different ROMs. I had flashed Noob's 2.1 ROM (iirc) from XDA, and then gone onto the CM9 port Locerra created.

When I flashed the Samsung ROM via Odin I got stuck on the Samsung logo after the initial boot animation. I had to go into the Samsung stock recovery where I wiped data/cache, then I went back into download and flashed the new ROM again via Odin. This time all was good.

From a hardware point of view I am pretty sure the HK and UK devices are identical. Software wise obviously not and I wouldn't be holding my breath for Samsung to make the update available via Kies.

You shouldn't need to unroot to flash the official Samsung ICS ROM. You should be able to go into download mode (volume down + power) then flash via Odin.

I'm gona unroot because they're 14/11 year old and I don't want them rooted, far too tempting for them to get naughty.

Naughty doing what? You can download illegal apps and watch porn on a completely unrooted device... i'm not sure what extra powers for mischief rooting will give them.

Getting effectively proxied up and stealing stuff then subsequently getting caught is my main worry, imho you need root to be effectively hidden when you nick er stuff, I'm not bothered if they wana look at porn but anything that makes it easier to steal stuff on their 3g 7.7s is a no no.

Edit.. If and when they can do it themselves they can get as Stainless Steel Rat as they want, but as a Yank once said Not On My Watch!
