Samsung LS34E790C - Curved 34" 21:9 super-wide

Only one guy actually has been being complaining about the ghosting on the whole of the internet :). Bar him (and he's posted here), I cannot find any other references to this standout issue, namely ghosting. The other non-pro reviews are all 'responsive', 'fast' and 'good at games and video' etc etc.

We'll see over the coming weeks.

BLB complaints from 'actual users' are legion for the LG screens. Note that 'professional' 'reviews' never mention the bleed on the LG panels (or more accurately glow/smear): they've always been given 'golden' units without any of the end user problems -- and note too they do not address end user experiences because in turn they wouldn't be sent anything to review if they didn't comply and gave a bad review.

The LG 34" panels have huge BLB problems - there is no avoiding that. The Samsung potentially has bog awful ghosting issues.. but only from the review of one single poster. Stinks, doesn't it?

I sent back two LG 34" units before calling it day.

I would probably order one myself if LG haven't lost my monitor lol. Three weeks they have had it now and im still waiting for the engineering department to send it to the courier so I can get it back and return it to OCUK. Even spoke to the manager and he said he would sort it but im still waiting.

This is why I always return it to the reseller within the first 12 months. They then have to sort it within 30 days or you get your money back.

Well Overclockers shipped my replacement, so hopefully should get it by Wednesday. I'll try to take more photos this time and give more detailed impressions. Think I'm gonna purchase a calibrator, but stuck between the i1 display pro and the colormunki display :(

Okay, so thoughts so far:

  1. It's a bloody big box. This is mostly due to the fact that the monitor is fixed to the stand already, so there's a lot of packing materials.
  2. There's no back-light bleed at all.
  3. The screen has no dead / stuck pixels that I have found, as yet.
  4. Everything looks very sharp and there's no banding.
  5. The stand has a slightly annoying "lean" to the left, although minor I may try to see what I can do to get it more central.
  6. In the games I've very quickly tested it with, there's no ghosting.

I think the fundamental problem we seem to have at the moment is there's a whole bunch of us who would like to buy a 34" curved screen but they all seem to have some "faults" to a greater or lesser degree. The fact the manufacturers are happy to say they are not a fault is kinda neither here nor there for me if I'm spending £800 on a monitor.

"Yes sir, I understand you just bought this brand new £20k car and the drivers window keeps opening when you drive, however we have a standard that says 1 dodgy window out of 4 is an acceptable tolerance and not a fault..." :)

With no easy way to get a screen pre checked it's pot luck if you get a good monitor or a pants one - retailers try to dodge the CCR regs then frankly I'm just not going to buy it and take the risk in the first place. As an aside for a £800 monitor I'd happily pay and extra £50 to have it pre checked for dead/bright pixels and backlight bleed *hint, hint Gibbo ;) *

£200 on a monitor and yes, I can rationalise taking a bit of a risk, £800 on a high end expensive piece of kit - no chance, sorry which is a shame as I would buy one tomorrow if I could be sure it wasn't going to have these problems :(

Completely agree, cost isn't an issue, ****ing about wasting time is.

Offer me a pre-dispatch quality control service as a value add from OC and feel free to charge me £50/100 extra (chuck in some tweaking of the colour balances etc. as you guys have all the kit in house presumably)

Having just finished calibrating it, it looks great.

The blacks are some of the deepest I've seen on a monitor, ever. Colours look great, at least as good as my old Dell IPS monitor. I've only calibrated it with an old Spyder3Pro so I'm sure someone with something a bit newer could do an even better job of making sure it's bang-on.

Also, it was soooooo bright out of the box, I had to turn the brightness down to about 50/100 to get the brightness down to the required level!

@Global_Inferno: fantastic news that you're pleased with the Samsung so far, and I'm sure all of us are looking forward to your review :)

Thing is: on what basis? Something like dead pixels then yes, however both LG 34's I sent back to OCUK with excessive BLB and glow were, after testing "within tolerances".
