Samsung LS34E790C - Curved 34" 21:9 super-wide

But you can always send back blb under DSR as long as you are quick. The issue then is that you have to go to the hassle of sending it back plus paying for it (which wont be cheap). When you factor that in, paying £50 upfront to ensure you get a good one isn't a bad idea. Hell a lot of the Korean sellers on ebay do pixel perfect testing for £20 if you message them so it is not like its an unheard of idea. The testing could be non-refundable as it is a service not goods, plus if you DSR the monitor they could sell it as a B-grade (tested) monitor for a slight mark-up over standard b-grade. I suppose it all needs to be balanced against the cost of doing the checking.

It speaks volumes about the quality of monitors these days that this idea is even being suggested, but I think it's a great one and definitely something OCUK should consider. Returning a monitor is a PITA and not cheap. Not that in my opinion you should have to pay for it at all if there's BLB... I don't know when or how this ever became acceptable or something the manufacturer doesn't recognise as a fault. It can utterly ruin a gaming experience on the likes of Elite Dangerous or Alien Isolation.

As other had said I'd love to hear some more feedback regarding how the motion is in games like WOW and any first person shooters if you have any installed?

I've cancelled my order for the Dell U3415W as it's been on order for over a month with no sign of my supplier (it wasn't OCUK) being able to get stock any time soon. Annoyingly, they also charged me for the monitor when I ordered it, despite not having any stock and not getting any for over a month, so currently waiting for the refund to come though.

Quite hacked off about them pre-emptively charging me for it actually

Very interested in the Samsung 34" even though it's slightly more expensive. It's not looking like we'll see the Dell in the UK for a couple of months and the Samsung looks like a better bet than the LG and AOC models.

Just heard that my replacement comes tomorrow :D
Hopefully this time I won't have an ugly band across the entire span of the screen.

I'll try and get a few games of Insurgency in and I'll try and get a trial for World of Warcraft.

This Samsung does look the best of the crop right now, but I can't help but feel the price will tank once the faster (120hz+) screens hit later this year. It's a big chunk of change to spend and I'd want to be keeping it for years to justify that, and given how quickly monitor tech seems to be moving right now, I can't see that happening with this screen.

Likewise, however it's looking likely to be at least 6 months away and it's hard to really gauge whether it's worth waiting another 6-12months just to get 120Hz instead of 60Hz. To my eyes it doesn't really make that much difference but YMMV.

I suppose they'll also benefit from Freesync/Gsnync aswell but likewise whether that's a killer feature worth waiting for will depend on your perspective. It's very easy to get into a cycle of waiting for the next big thing and I'm still using a 23" 1080p 120Hz monitor so a 34" 1440p would be a huge upgrade.

I see the 'other place' put their price up by £40 - it's a seller's market right now. I paid £650 for the LG and that was a lot for a monitor. @£840, it just seems too steep a price to pay, especially, as has been pointed out that they will drop in price.

Still though - getting withdrawal symptoms..............

Having just finished calibrating it, it looks great.

The blacks are some of the deepest I've seen on a monitor, ever. Colours look great, at least as good as my old Dell IPS monitor. I've only calibrated it with an old Spyder3Pro so I'm sure someone with something a bit newer could do an even better job of making sure it's bang-on.

Also, it was soooooo bright out of the box, I had to turn the brightness down to about 50/100 to get the brightness down to the required level!

Glad to see you are enjoying it too matey - your thoughts seem pretty much to have mirrored mine.

I'd be interested in comparing your settings to mine, would you be kind enough to post them please?

Thanks
Adam

Hey Adam, I'm mid-way through compiling a video review at the moment, but other than the brightness, I haven't changed any settings on the monitor itself, just created a colour profile using my Spyder3.

As for 120Hz+ versions of this monitor; yes, I'm sure they'll make some but, will you really have the horsepower to drive one of these at native resolutions @ 120FPS?! Personally, I doubt it, unless you've got an extremely high-end SLI rig. 60FPS for me is what I'm used to, it looks silky smooth, and ignorance is bliss. :D

Totally understand this... I always have an itch for SOMETHING, and a new monitor is top of my list right now, but at this price, ouch... it's a big outlay, and once the faster panels hit I may have epic buyers remorse lol!

I don't know about there not being any difference between 60Hz and 100Hz though. I think it's very much a subjective thing, as I know plenty of people who can't stand anything less than 120 and pick up on it straightaway, whereas others seem quite happy with either.

True, price to high still on hold pre ordered dell if price go down will reconsider

Well my video will have clips from running HDMI @50Hz and DisplayPort 1.2 @60Hz. You can make your own mind up then.

Personally, I hadn't noticed any difference (as yet) although I hadn't been looking explicitly for differences between the two. And it's certainly true that while I've done video tests on the HDMI, I haven't done (and probably won't) do any gaming (as it's my MacBook).
