Samsung LS34E790C - Curved 34" 21:9 super-wide

Yeah, the Samsung isn't perfect in that, like all 34" 1440p ultrawide monitors, it's still 60Hz and it does have more colour/gamma shift when view at an angle compared to an IPS model.

I don't think there's anything out right now that I'd rather have though. FWIW I think the Dell U3415W would probably have been equally good though. I guess it comes down to whether you prefer the deeper blacks and lesser glow of the VA Samsung or the better viewing angles and more consistent colour reproduction of the IPS Dell?

If you're unsure and struggling to pick between them buy whichever you can get at a better price!

Just completed a 47 minute calibration which seems to have kicked out the red tint. RGB curve is still not as good as yours Matson, but to my eyes whites appear far more neutral instead of with a slight red tinge.

A 47 min one would be just pointless..I never do more than the 7 min one or even the small one that takes 2 mins and it gives me the same results plus it let's you do it more times in succession to get it perfect. Glad you've got rid of the red though.

Color shifting?? i dont like the sound of that. If it only happens when looking from left or right angles or extreme top and down angels it doesnt worry me but hopefully its not as bad as TN color shifting where you just have to nod with your head a bit and you go from grey to dark grey.

Gonna be sending back my Samsung as I noticed the other day that there is a tiny little cluster (its really small due the res) but I find it quite annoying as its bang in the middle of the screen about 2/3rds down.

Not sure when it appeared exactly as it was the first thing I tested for when I got the Sammy. But under dark/black background it sticks out due to being white (more or less).

You can't see it when there is colour (although I have not checked all colours to be fair, just black) but its not something I will be living with that's for sure.

As much as I like the Sammy I'm still not totally convinced with the VA panel, its great for blacks but the colours and viewing angles bug me too.

I've sat in front of IPS for years and years and just prefer it.

So I am gonna DSR it.

I'm quite tempted to try the LG 34UC97-S 34" now due to it's IPS panel which I know I will prefer colour and shift wise. IPS glow (a little) I can handle that as that's just IPS. Backlight bleed I can't live with though and I know it's a gamble with the LG but surely there must be some good ones out there too?

It's either the LG or another option is to go for the BenQ BL3201PT 32" 4k.

I might go for the LG first as I do quite like the UWD and pry I get a decent one, or I'll send that back and go for the BenQ.

What do you reckon? I'd appreciate your thoughts guys as I will be arranging to get my Sammy sent back on Monday.

So don't have must time to decide!

From what i have understood the Samsung panel needs some calibration to show proper colors. Dont know if you have done this?

Yes mate I've got a i1 Pro. Colours and viewing angles are still not as good as IPS, but the black levels and bleed are very good though on the VA.

Really don't know what to go for!

Gotta make my mind up soon though. I might just go for the LG 34UC97-S 34" this time round as it does look nice, I think it's the best looking 34" out of the bunch albeit the most expensive. I can only hope I get a good one without any light bleed, or it's going back. I do love the curve on these types of monitor, the curve does make it easier on the eyes.

I quite like the LG 31MU97 31" True 4K as well, that seems nice if you get a good one. The 32" BenQ is good for the money, although I've never had one of their products.

Then there are things like the EIZO FlexScan EV3237, but things are starting to get expensive at this level. Although I bet the quality is very good, not to mention the 5 year warranty. That goes a long way in my book.

Monitors is something I am quite fussy about, it does need to be right. But I don't mind paying the extra as it's the most important part of the pc really.

You clearly have higher demands when it comes to color than i do. To me anything better than TN will do :P so i guess im not setting the bar that high. I just cannot deal with vertical color shifting that TNs have, even the good ones like the ROG SWIFT. As fare as i can understand this VA panel has some shifting but should be as bad? My main problem with the IPS 3440x1440 panels is they all seem to have a high chance of suffering from horrendous backlight bleeding(not talking IPS glow). It might just be due to the fact that you usually only see people posting the negative stuff and not the positive i just dont feel like returning yet another panel cause its such a hassle.

I hope you find a solution, i sadly cannot help you as im no where near knowledgeable enough on this subject.

Well I just tried one of these, but sad to say I can’t live with a VA screen. Never tried a VA before but I guess I prefer the IPS type to much.

For some reason text just killed my eyes, messed around with the clear type options to no end, it did help but wasn’t enough for me. After calibration colours were almost as good as any other but the colour shift when moving your head any amount was also unacceptable. Shame really as I was hoping this was going to be the one, but the search continues for me.

A couple of months in, absolutely loving my Samsung. Colours are great, gaming is fine, editing is great and netflix/movies are perfect up close or from a distance.

Very happy :D

Really not sure how i could even upgrade on this in a few years time have to wait and see ;-)

Hi All

About to (hopefully) order one of these. Im reading all the pages on this post (currently up to page 20!) as im trying to find of people have used this monitor with Photoshop?

My main question is, im a photographer and want to know how well this monitor can be used (with it being Curved) to edit photos.

I shoot a lot of landscape and nature photos and edit ion Photoshop Creative cloud.

You want to edit photos on a VA panel? Might want to rethink that, and go for an IPS model over it instead.

As for the curve itself, it seems hit or miss. Some get used to it and adjust for the curve over time when working with photos with lots of straight lines on it, others can't get used to it and hate it. Best to try out for yourself.

Thanks for the reply Tephos, i have just sold my previous monitor which was a Samsung S27B750VS 27"

Now looking for a replacement, im a bit out of touch with the various panels i have to admit. Im a bit of a Samsung Fan i have to admit but obviously want something that ticks all the boxes, Photo Editing and Gaming mostly.
