Samsung LS34E790C - Curved 34" 21:9 super-wide

Being asus, it will probably have bad QC issues and then you are stuck with their poor CS so I would avoid :p None of these 34" IPS/VA 60-75HZ screens are worth more than £800 max imo.

I haven't tested the 29UM65 but that is odd. DisplayPort and HDMI on that sort of monitor shouldn't offer such a discrepancy. Were you using Firefox out of interest? And regardless of the connection used the gradient looks nothing like that on the Samsung, as noted in my review.

Yup, no idea why that is, I asked badass in this thread but he wasn't 100% sure about what was causing it:

can only think it's something related to gamma curves with perhaps some difference in presets from different interfaces on the monitor

I tried it with both firefox and chrome, even on my desktop wallpapers I could notice it.

My Settings

Brightness 18
Contrast 75
Sharpness 60
Game Mode Off

R = 50
G = 43
B = 48

Gamma Mode 3

ICC profiled with a ColorMunki + DispcalGUI and Argyll

I have not noticed any banding in games but will try the Witcher & Project cars later to confirm

Yeah I love those wallpapers, all of them are from interfacelift.

I run /r/widescreenwallpapers - and they are most certainly not lifted from Interfacelift :)

New review of the Samsung here: http://www.trustedreviews.com/samsung-s34e790c-review. I have to take issue with this though: "Despite that, Samsung’s factory settings are pretty spot on" (!!!) -- unless something's changed of course.

Mine arrived a few days ago and the factory settings were horrible out of the box.

I'm quite fond of my wallpaper, looks stunning...

@nexus - plurp to you too ;)

Spotted this nice comparison of normal and wide: https://imgur.com/a/M0LQ8?gallery. A lot of people actually think you're getting a letterboxed version of a 16:9 screen (with 21:9) believe it or not.

In the review they state a con as "heavy" does that really matter? Do people carry this monitor place to place?

Surely heavy means good solid construction.

So I have this monitor sat on the desk never seen it fired up yet as motherboard being fixed under warranty, should be back tomorrow... kinda excited or will I have issues??

i thought most of the weight was in the stand untill i removed it for a ergotron mx arm and was quite supprised how light the stand was, the monitor itself is quite a lump and i had a bit of fun mounting it on the arm by myself

of course there colours were spot on the one they reviewed it was ips and not like everyone else with a va, trusted reviews should be anything but trusted I think

Just ordered an ex-demo one of these. Looking to replace some bulky and cumbersome HP ZR24W's in surround with something simpler and more elegant. In doing some research I had a very hard time making my mind up when it came to current offerings (this, the Dell, the LG).

Looks like I'll have some calibration to do when I get it ;)

Perhaps the thing I'm most concerned about is eye strain. I don't get anything like that with my current monitors (brightness turned down a fair whack and contrast up).

The eye strain on mine is the only thing that annoys me. Its beautiful otherwise.
The only thing I can do with mine now though is keep it or sell it and its such a beautiful monitor I don't really want to sell it but the constant eyestrain is annoying me. I know its not my eyes because I have great vision and on IPS and my LED TV and phone I get no strain at all. Its only on this screen which I believe is down to the VA panel or this panel in particular.

Just what I wanted to hear ;) Is this something which gives you immediate discomfort or are we talking about prolonged periods?
