Samsung NC10

Thinking of getting one of these but I really don't have the time to wade through this entire thread.

I'd just like to know what these are like for typing on and reading text for extended periods?

I know its a netbook but I'm considering getting one of these instead of a laptop to do my dissertation on.

I've done 2000 word essays on it relatively comfortably, but i much prefer hooking it up to a decent keyboard and mouse + monitor for extended periods of time. My neck starts aching from looking down at the screen after a few hours.

Got mine this morning, been typing, downloading, everything on it. Its now what, just gone 9pm, im still on it and my eyes are not hurting at all, hope that helps :)

Im using mine for uni as well mike. Got all my work on it...and it is good when the library comps are full I can just sit down somewhere and do some work.
Great that its nice and light as well...don't need a separate bag :)

I travel on the train every day to uni for about 30mins and it is perfect for catching up on work and that while on the train.

Ok I WOULD have bought one at a computer superstore in London today as I was in there playing with the NC10 and also the eEEPCs and Asus/HP and Advent netbooks which were all good but the Samsung stood out from a clear distance in terms of build quality, keyboard size and quality and overall presentation.

I loved the blue colour one and wanted that but they were completely sold out of all colours and only had a white that someone had returned. I asked if it was at reduced cost...they said no so I jogged on.

Will go to another brand local to my home today (Sunday) and see if they have any in stock and if they do then will buy one along with 2GB upgrade on the RAM. The NC10s the store had were £322 which isn't far off from online prices and I'm happy to pay a small bit extra to have it to play over the weekend!

It's gonna rock!

download the vista sound driver from here and install as adminastrator
it fixed the loss of sound after standby and enabled the microphone

I see those drivers are for another mini notebook not the NC10, I guess the shoud chip is the same though hence why the vista ones there will work?

Is there any other drivers I will need to download for Win7 for the NC10 does anyone know?

Also, best method to install Win7 ? I don't have a USB DVDRW!

Take a peek over at the www.sammynetbook.com forums as it has a fair bit on the w7 OS install guides and drivers etc.

Got it, had to get black as blue was nowhere to be seen! got 2GB DDR2 667 too. Install Windows 7 B1 on right now :)

Love the quality of it!

ahhh im really tempted to pick one of these up, either white or black.

don't know if i should though as i want one with hsdpa and windows vista and im hearing they might be bringing one out soon with those 2 features.

i would buy one and upgrade the ram and put vista on but i dont want to have to pay for vista again to get a key(im not going to do it illegally), isn't there some kind of refund program Microsoft do for xp? seeing as i wouldn't even be using it if i put vista on.

i wouldn't mind putting windows 7 on it but I've already used my windows 7 key for my main rig and i take it there are no more keys?

You can get another 7 key just be proceeding to DL the beta again, a new key is generated^

:D

Re-organised the partitions to give My Docs a greater hdd share as I don't need 70GB for Windows7. 7 is just installing now!

Just picked a blue NC10 up, two weeks old for £250 :D

Not sure if I want to keep xp or put vista/7 on it yet

EDDS: there are only 10 keys for Win 7, google the one you have & you'll find the rest :)

I did it this way after having no success with a bootable USB pendrive:

* Open (in Explorer) the downloaded 7 ISO after mounting it in Daemon tools (or equiv...)
* Copy the contents of the ISO onto a folder on your desktop
* Put the folder onto a USB pendrive
* Copy from pendrive onto a folder on your netbook
^^^ This process didn't take very long at all at USB2 speeds ^^^
* Double click the setup.exe from the folder and Windows will create setup files and begin installation.

Easy as pie and no boot disks/drives needed.

I'll get a shot when I get home as I'm at a cousin's house atm \;0

Am also going to record a short video showing how Win7 runs on it, boot > general use > shutdown.

Gotta say WIn7 is very much ideal for this kind of netbook, the new taskbar lends itself completely to the smaller screen and make window management super easy!

I have not had time to charge the battery yet but with wifi being used and whilst installing Windows7 plus setting it all up afterwards since my post about getting it I have atm 1hr 12mins of battery left according to Windows - not bad!
