Samsung sneaks out snazzy 3G iPhone rival... the Omnia.

Lets face it no one in here is a big enough mug to throw "sim-free" kinda £££'s at a phone. All I want to know is when is it out in the UK on 02.......now please!

Well it all depends whether you want to be locked into a contract or not! I bought my N82 SIM-free and it worked out the same price as a contract when I added it all up, with the added bonus I wasn't tied into anything. :)

Agreed, if you work out the costs, sometimes a SIM free version works out the same/cheaper then a contract offering. You also benifit from not having network branded F/W too!

Yeah but you then spend a big figure on top up credit. A contract used in moderation usually works best for me anyway. But back to the big news...its tuesday and any update on release lol

Nice. Seems quite good - for a Vodafone customer anyway? Their (official) website doesn't have it up yet but sometimes you have to call for new models…

Now I'll just have to wait for someone else to take the plunge and give us a 'real -life' review ;)

I noticed on one of those sites that it says if you get the 8 GB version you can always upgrade to 16 GB later with a flash card – is that right? And if so, will it be the same speed etc as the onboard stuff?

Cheers,

SW.

yeah well both 8gb and 16gb models allow you to put a memory card in it which can be as large as 32gb (i believe thats the biggest in production commercially there maybe a 48gb one)...so you can just get the 8gb version and put a 8/16/24gb/etc. memory card in there and you have a lot of space:)

the more i see this phone the more i want it over the iphone.

does any one know how it compares battery life with iphone? also, how do you think the typing will compare?

also you see this clips showing it playing divx? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FeE4xPB6cEY&feature=related

with a tv out this is a brilliant feature!

yeah it is divx enabled:Dfirst wm phone of its type...

and

battery is amazing...most reviewers cant believe how good it is, a lot better than the iphone as it has a 1440mAh battery...it would easily last a whole day with intensive use

any idea on the typing?

I think i may just get one sim free to use with o2 on there £20/month, 600 mins, 1000 texts, unlimited data.

Getting more and more appealing. Iphone contract = £810 over 18 months.
Omnia = £400 + 20*18 = £760 over 18.

the typing is supposed to be amazing aswell...it has haptic feedback aswell...basically the touchscreen is as good as the iphone...

and wait till it officially comes out as orange have a contract for £35 which has 600 mins unlimited texts and free internet aswell which equals £630 after 18 months...but im not sure if thats the 16gb or 8gb

edit: and im not sure if theyre still offering unlimited internet...i believe they are

Just got off the phone to Vodafone. They've got a September the 1st date for the Omnia's release :)

They couldn't be specific about the version they were going to supply or the contract terms they are going to offer customers and quite bluntly told me to 'ignore the contracts/terms' that were being offered by the two sites mentioned here in this thread as a comparison...
