** SAMSUNG: WARP SPEED CAPTAIN, ENGAGE!!!! **

Were trying to source ones with Black PCB's ideally but seems a very scarce market.

Ive seen a black one from ASUS. Think it was ROG branded.

While the adaptors are a good idea one issue that has been raised is that a lot of them don't allow Z87 motherboards to then use the Adapted M2 ssd as a boot drive. So while you get the blisteringly fast drive performance it cant act as an operating system drive.

This may not be true for all the adaptors / Z87 or older motherboards.

Sounds like best route is a new motherboard and system upgrade then. ;)

Shall try to find out if they are OS bootable or not but this is all pretty new....

Mein Deutsch is a bit rusty but they'll do the trick nicely for those of us with Z97 boards that don't have an M.2 slot available.

£30 seems a tad pricey though for something so simple. Surely you can do better than that Gibbo? (The 4 letter word place nearby has LYCOM branded ones advertised for under 12 quid coming into stock 4 days after yours.)

unless you manage to get some with black PCB, I'm not gonna move to it (which is a shame).
the green PCB would look too out of place

Is this compatible with the Asus X99-S or does one require the NVMe M.2 SSDs?

Yes, its compatible.

Is this drive compatible with/run at full speed on an MSI X99s SLI Plus board or an Asus Z97 Mark S?

It is on the MSI, looks like the Asus Z97 Mark S doesnt have an M.2 slot on it, so you'd need the £30 adapter and a free PCI-E slot (At x4) to take full advantage, but there would still be a question mark of you using the PCIE adapter to boot from.

...holds itchy finger back from 'Buy now' button must wait for the NVME one with 3D nand (and hence higher capacities) that will likely follow.... must resist

I can confirm these work at full speed on the AsRock Z97 Extreme6 motherboard as that's what I'm running; sadly I paid a good £80 pounds more for the SM951 when I purchased it from a competitor not even a month ago :(

Fastest SSD I've ever used with Windows 8.1 booting in < 7 sec.

i can also say i had the 512gb version in my impact vii in the supposedly pcie 3.0 x4 slot and only saw 1200mbps and 1000mbps (which is half the rated speed) regardless of what i changed in the bios.

so i have returned it and going to wait for the nvme versions

Mine will be arriving in the next hour, so i'll be trying out in my Impact VII.

What software did you use to record those speeds?

Are you running the latest BIOS?

i have an asrock extreme 6 with m.2 ultra port and m.2 normal sata port, i assume this will be for that and be very very fast?

The largest you can afford :)

I run the M2 Ultra for my OS, apps and games with the 2nd non ultra M.2 used for documents, downloads etc.

Mine on my Asus X99-E WS, bought it a month or so back elsewhere, but it makes SATA3 look bad, just wish I could have more M2 slots :D

They can get pretty toasty, without airflow, mind you. I threw a little RAM heatsink on the controller and it means i've not seen above 45c since even under very stressful writes, but mine really doesn't get much airflow.
