Just thought Id re-post this as its getting lost in the earlier pages...

I HIGHLY recommend the following tutorial.

http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/ldw/tutorial.html

Have a look through it, and have the config program running alongside so you can try out some of the examples and familiarise yourself with the interface etc.

Id recommend just spending 10 minutes or so playing around withe the config program so you understand what parameters do what, which will make life a helluva lot easier when you start to grab other people's configs etc.

Good luck everyone!!

Not sure about this yet.

Selekt0r was waiting to hear from the BBC website.

An interim measure (rather crude though) is to use the ExtendedWeather script.

This requires the installation of the Weather.ttf font (included).

The script then returns a character, which when translated into the weather font represents the weather conditions.

Done that, it returns a Cloudy/Sun icon for the pass 3 days! When it is Sunny as hell today. Rather strange, don't think it's accurate.

Surprisingly enough, I've not had any reply from them yet (apart from an automated 'holding' email advising that they may reply if they feel that it's appropriate, however they get lots of emails and can't respond to them all personally....)

I'll give them a few days and if I haven't had a reply then I'll need to think whether there would be another way of getting the info I need. The only one which springs to mind is a VBscript/VB program to pull back every worldwide location in turn and parse the html to pull out the weather descriptions and associated .gif files - that should hopefully give a pretty comprehensive list. The BBC site OP might get a bit stroppy at that though... :D

Hehe,

Sounds like you need to send one saying,

"I will presume that by not responding you agree to me pulling these images off the site by whatever means, and there is no copyright issues which may arise."

:)

It would be awesome if you could get this to work though, a nice icon alongside the weather reports would be fantastic!

If you can extract their Data on weather info, why not the icon ? since that is the a representation of the word "Sunny" or Cloudy anyway.

I can, but if I'm adapting the vbscript to copy the required symbol files into some placeholders for Samurize then I will need to know all of the possible symbols which exist, along with the associated descriptions.

It's that comprehensive list which I've asked the BBC for, although I should be able to knock up a quick script to extract a rather long list from a selection of pages for different locations around the world....

... but it's late so I'll have a look at it tomorrow.

problem with the 'UKTV' script or more the url it points to.

only shows current listings not previous or next?

edit: nevermind, working now, must have been because of duplicate listings or something.

I've got the majority of this working now apart from the Hotmail bit. Has anyone managed to get it working?

(I've set the cookie and created the Temp/hotmail.html file but still nothing, what am I missing?)

Hi,

You need to go to the hotmail page, and check the 'automatically log-in' button. Also you need to make sure cookies are enabled.

Then you need to set up the ActiveScript to perform a writefile function every X minutes to generate the html file.

Then add the functions from hotmail.vbs such as GetNewMail etc etc
