Sandisk memory cards - a LOT of fakes out there

On the new ones they are on the bottom edge, the older ones are on one of the side edges. Sandisk told me that all their cards have serial numbers so if it hasn't got one it will be a fake.

Well I have been reading this thread with much interest..
Only on Tuesday this week I purchased a 4Gb Sandisk Ultra II card from a seller on eBay (before I read this thread unfortunately)
Well as you might guess, I have done all the checks as posted on this thread and yes I have a very good fake with crap performance..

Just emailed the seller hoping for a refund. Will keep you posted. ;)

Hello ***. Received the 4Gb CF card today only to find this card is a fake and definately not a genuine Sandisk Ultra II as you advertised. I have tested the card along side my present (GENUINE) 4Gb Sandisk Ultra II to find its twice as slow buffering data from the same camera in tests I have done today. Please read here for more info......

http://martybugs.net/articles/fakesandisk.cgi

I don't wish to cause any trouble but I have not received what you advertised as a Sandisk Ultra II CF card. It is a fake which has nowhere near the performance of the genuine artical.
I hope you respond to this with the full intension of refunding ALL my payment as I will be returning this card in good faith. Both the card and the box are still like new.

I have kept my 100% feedback in-tact by being honest with all my trades. I hope you put things right here and things don't get nasty.
Regards Tim Procter

Another one!

Damn! Sorry to hear that Tim :(

Thanks Joe..

On the plus side its good that forums like this can spread the word which in turn may stop these bandits selling fake hardware to other poor unsuspecting saps like myself..

Keep this thread alive and thanks guys, If it wasnt for reading this I would probably have never bothered testing its speed etc.. ;)

My God that didnt take long....

Hi Tim,

I have no problem accepting the card back with full refund including the return delivery costs. The advert does now say it is a Branded product. The first few postings did say genuine as I myself thought they were genuine when purchased from supplier, but then this was changed to Branded when I found out. I have this same card in my Nikon and tested the transfer rate against my 1GB Lexar 80x using the same equipment and 30MB files the read and write results were as follows:

Lexar Read 2min 20sec

Lexar Write 1min 50sec

Branded Disk Read 2min 10sec

Branded Disk Write 1min 50sec

Hop this is acceptable to you Tim, please quote RMA Number RMA1234567890 on the outside packaging and the money will be refunded in full on the same day the unit is received.

Best regards

*******

If you get your refund Tim, then thats all good. :)

I think someone has seen the light here Joe..... Another update..

Thank you for highlighting this, they have all been withdrawn now to avoid problems. There was so many of them on ebay and since they were accepted on ebay it meant was there are no legal issues. But now that you indicated otherwise, they have been withdrawn and will not be relisted.

RESULT... :D :D :D

Here is my email sent to them:

Hello traderng,

I received your item through the post this morning and I wish to inform you that the SanDisk CF Flash card you have sent me is in fact a fake.

Upon comparing this card with other cards in my collection I wish to post this evidence:

1) There is no serial number present on this card. Unlike all other Sandisks cards (including this type and model) contain a serial number on the bottom edge of the card. Without this the card is not genuine

2) The read/write times of the card are poor. Responding nothing like other Ultra II's in both the read and write times

3) Sandisk offer a lifetime guarantee on all professional series cards, in your ebay listing you state 5 years which had me suspicious enough at the time, however upon receiving the (obvious) shoddy packaging and no warranty card like you receive with ALL SanDisk cards this was obvious from the start

For a satisfactory resolution to this attempt to mis-sell something to me I propose the following:

- I return the item to you via Royal Mail Recorded Delivery at the cost to yourselves, this will be around £1.30 as I would like proof the item is shipped back to your hands
- I have a full refund to my account of the money lost, which will also account for Paypal charges (the original listing was for £40.47 however with the 1.06% Paypal take I expect £44.54 back)
- I have a fuel mileage paid for (which will also include my time) for the hassle it takes to drive the 6 miles round trip to my nearest post office. At 10p a mile this will be 60p.

All in all the refund I would like back from yourself is as follows:

£1.30 for Recorded Delivery
£44.54 for the item with coverage of Paypal charge
£60p for fuel

Total: £46.44

I will allow you 24 hours for you to get in touch with me with your opinions on the matter, however if I am not satisfied with the answers or I do not receive a reply by 23:30 on Friday 15th June I will be forced to take further action whether this be with Ebay or otherwise.

I look forward to hearing from you and I hope that the counterfeit items you are supplying to people have come around via a genuine mistake.

Best regards,

Tom

We'll see what joy we get. I do think this thread would benefit as either going as a sticky so everyone is warned...or into the archive so it can still be seen.

I can only imagine this problem will continue for a while to come. Sad thing is all the people who have already bought one and won't be informed.

Totally gutted now... :(

Just got home from work and this email came through..

Message from Seller:
Tim, Refund as agreed. I am unable to refund the delivery back as PayPal will not accept refund more than original payment, so you may keep the unit if you wish.

What an arse...

I get a full refund and now he tells me I can keep the card

I posted the card back recorded delivery this morning.. HOW MAD AM I..

Shame. Email the seller again and you never know, he may actully refuse to sign for it in which case RM will return it to you. After all, it appears that the seller has tried to to his uptmost to make ammends for the situation.

My 2GB card is fake too! I've filed a Paypal complaint thing since the original seller is now not registerd. I have to say, it's a pretty good fake! The only give away is the serial number, the actual print on the card is spot on, doesn't look dodgy at all!

Oh well, hopefully i'll get a full refund from Paypal and get to keep the card as a backup card.

Emailed the seller telling him what a kind offer he laid on the table but unfortunately it was too late I have already posted the card back.

Lots more bull**** in the email, He may post it back yet... :D
