So Rich. Should I bin the one YOU sold me???

Wondered why a keen photographer such as youself would be selling on such a useful piece of kit. Let me know your thoughts as I am considering updating your trust accordingly.

... Please do tell more. Making a post like this deserves the full story at least..

I suggest you take a matter like this to email rather than airing your dirty washing on a public internet forum mate..

Your post will lead to a slanging match I am sure. :(

You're right. Over reaction too early on a Saturday morning.

I've edited my posts. Would appreciate it if you could edit your quote of me!

Right.. Paypal dispute has started. Bit concerned about this in his feedback:

"transacion cancelled as seller canot receive Paypal anymore and agreed to cancel"

"Cancelled, by mutual agreement. Seller unable to use Paypal"

Hmmm

Same guy I've bought off. The 5 years warranty makes it sound like it

Hmm it then mentions a 5 year warrenty rather than the lifetime warenty you get with Sandisks, doh!

Might be worth noting that in all of Europe the warrenty on sandisk cards is 5 years and not lifetime as can be seen on the official sandisk site:-

Yes I noticed this about Sandisk Europe cards. I may have even let mine go had it not been for the lack of serial number. Sending mine off this morning though for a refund.

In order to judge whether the card is fake or not, the only certain method is to do a few speed tests. As I (and others) have found, the fake cards are noticeably slower in writing and reading.

My Paypal dispute deely is now open, and apparently if I just return the card via Recorded delivery I should get a refund. The return address, surprise suprise, is a Mail Box Ltd. address

All the tell-tale signs of the scammer!

What we need is a program that shows the actual read/write speed of a card. That way we should all be able to find out for certain. Would be great for everyones piece of mind I think. Anyone know of one?

Hmm there must be something out there can do speed tests to any kind of removeable media, be it USB / HDD / Compact Flash..

The problem with having a program test a card is that the performance you get through a CF reader on a PC compared to your camera will differ massively.

Even using a CF reader you are unlikely to see the full speed of the card. Take the a look at this....

http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007-6133

and also compare the in camera performance....

http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007-7303

The best way to test the performance is a like for like comparison. To check the perfomance of my dodgy Ultra II I used the following test:

Manual mode
Exposure set to 1/4000 seconds
Manual focus
RAW mode only
Lens cap on
Burst mode
I then took 6 photos in burst mode, and timed how long the red light (writing) flashed for.

The results were:

1GB Extreme III - 6 seconds
512MB Ultra II - 7 seconds
2GB Ultra II (fake) - 11 seconds

Yeah that was the simple test I did.

I held the button down for 15 seconds and recorded 1) How many photos were taken and 2) How long it took to clear the buffer.

Clear difference in both!

Just a quick note :) - NTL now have 4gb kingston elite pros for £88 ;p

Gonna order one soon!

Going from their customer service for TV I wouldn't trust NTL to sell me a memory card :p

Unless NTL does mean something else...
