Sandisk memory cards - a LOT of fakes out there

the cableco ntl, every month they have diff offers on, I dont see how they are a competitor when ebay isnt either.

The kingston cards are also very good, I used them only!

Ok update on my dodgy seller. After I opened the Paypal dispute I was told to mail the card back to him (well his Mailbox Unlimited address..). Just about to send it off when I received this email:

i refund you full amount, sorry for the problem. i also graduated from
imperial as well. please accept my apologise, all the best!

At which point Paypal sent me the £30 refund, and I still have the card, so I emailed him again asking whether he still wants the dodgy card:

leave me a positive and i will do the same. the card you just keep it as a
gift from an old imperial friends. thanks and all the best in the future,
my friend!

His attempt at pretending to be from Imperial fails considering he can barely speak (or type) English. I'm not sending the card, because I don't want to pay the postage.

But I sure as hell aren't going to leave him positive feedback! Any advice on what to do next? If I leave him negative feedback, he'll hit me probably. As cowardly as it is, i'm minded to just ignore him (leave no feedback) and just put my £30 towards a real memory card. :(

I'd like to report him to Ebay / Sandisk, but I just know that they won't be bothered. Ebay especially.

I'm trying to figure the best course of action myself. I think I may leave him neutral feedback and try to report him to eBay.

Trading Standards might be a good option but only if they investigate him. I don't want to be part of a criminal case thank you very much! I don't have the time.

The problem is, I have no contact telephone number, no real address. So what could they go on?

For some guy selling counterfeit memory cards, I can't see them looking into it.

Well by law they have to, it is fraud afterall

Yeah well my Dad's company credit card got ripped off last week (again). The guy who had used it, bought car insurance, DVD rentals etc.. My Dad phoned the police and they weren't interested.

As far as they were concerned, my Dad was covered by insurance, so what's the problem?

I'm leaving Neutral ^^Gord^^ when it arrives. But like you I havn't got the time for criminal investigations. Wouldn't want more people ripped off in the same vein to :(

Well, that seems to have solved our problem. It seems you can't leave feedback on a trade that both partners agree to reverse e.g. a refund.

I got to leave feedback  Money is heading back to my account now, phew is all I say!

Yeah I can leave feedback too. Was your case reversed via Ebay? Because I got the refund via Paypal. Different setup I think.

so does anyone know of a seller on ebay who sells official cards? or is it not worth getting it from ebay. Could anyone reccommend me a cheap site to buy on from? ta

I've learned my lesson anyway. Won't be going near Ebay for something like that again.

I bought a i-pro 1G 100x card, how do I test the speed? is there a program that does that?

I didn't buy if off the auction site but cost me 27 inc delivery and postage, is that good?

seems good, I use a 2gb i-pro one and its fine.

You can test the speed of them using HDTach (freeware for home use)

Not bad.
Lowest I've seen is £22.10 for the card with £1.09 for Royal Fail postage...

Have ordered 2 of the 4gb i-Pro 100x cards at £79.62 each. Gone with a courrier though.

Have used the 2gb cards for a while and haven't had a single problem with it's reliability or performance.

I done the test with that freeware but I think I am doing something wrong. the 256MB card came with the camera speed rated 3mb/s and same as the i-pro card.

I transfere 100mb of pictures to both cards and the 256mb card takes 55s and the x100 card take 43 seconds.

I used it with the 300d just now and with picture taken with RAW format and I am happy with the result. No more waiting for the image preview!

Thanks to OP and thanks to everyone who posted in this thread.
I bought a 2Gb Sandisk Ultra II from ebay last month and just stumbled upon this thread yesterday. To me the card looked completely genuine before i read these comments.
I emailed the seller yesterday evening with the following email:

Hi XXXXXXX XXXXXXX,

A few weeks ago i received the Sandisk 2.0GB Ultra II memory card from you at what i thought was a great price.

The other day I noticed slow performance of the card compared with my other Sandisk Ultra II card which i bought from a high street retailer.

Yesterday i contacted Sandisk for them to explain why this is happening and they asked me several details about the card including the serial number, after which they told me that the card was definately not a genuine Sandisk card.

I bought this card in good faith from yourself obviously assuming it was 100% genuine. I, before experiencing the problem with the card, also gave you positive feedback.

I hope that you didn't realise that you were selling a fake product and i realised you have a lot of positive feedback as the cards do actually work but as at slow speed which most do not realise.

Please see http://martybugs.net/articles/fakesandisk.cgi

I have the card boxed here ready to return to you.

I would like a full refund of for this card plus the postage you charged, totalling £32.98. before i send the card back to yourself.

As a gesture of good will, i will pay to send the card back to yourself by recorded delivery.

Please respond within 3 days from today (by 7.00pm Sunday 22nd August 2006). If i do not receive a satisfactory conclusion by our communication, i shall be taking the matter up with ebay and paypal and claiming full costs back, including my postage.

Regards

XXXXXX XXXXXX

At 3am this morning i received a full refund including postage from the seller.

Thanks again everyone!

:)

That's because he made no loss on anything. You paid for the shipping back, and he gets to sell this junk again.
