*****SANDYBRIDGE MOTHERBOARD CHIPSET ISSUE*****

just a quick one, my OCZ agility 30gb SSD died a week after being used one one of the 3gbps ports, and my samsung f3 1gb (also about 6 months old) was taking about 5 seconds to access through my computer when plugged into a 3gbps port... I would double click and there would be a few seconds, then some mechanical noises as the drive was accessed then it would load...
It was NOT like this when ?I first got the board.
Changed port and everything is peachy now...

What does this mean... I guess I will wait till intel & gigabyte give updates and then take it from there. The 6 Gbps ports seem fine...
Its not a problem unless you make it one I guess, and intel seem to be pretty serious about sorting it... Just gotta wait... (twiddles thumbs)...

It means your board has the issue I'd say. Stop using the effected ports with hard drives and when motherboard vendors release more info arrange a swap out. :)

If o.c stick to this i will be happy

we’re also offering you the option of returning any possibly affected motherboard for a swap or sales return. All warranties for affected motherboards will be reset to give you enough time to carry out any exchanges.

If Sandybridge kills my Hamster will OcUK pay for the funeral? If not THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!
Thinking now of pictures of Fox's hamster glued to a SB cpu and used as heatsink with smoke pouring out it ears as the cpu hits 5ghz..:p

I have an asrock p67 extreme 6 board and it runs beautifully touch wood at the moment. As Asrock don't have a registration feature on their website, I presume there is no need for me to do this even if I have to return my board to them when the procedure has been decided. Is that correct?

Anyway, just a general comment about all the people getting in a frenzy. I saved up for my new system for almost two years and I spend more money on it than I have ever on a computer. Of course I was really annoyed last night when I read about the problems. Then I thought- put things in perspective there are peope dying all over the world in wars, famine etc. Yes, you have every right to ask questions and be annoyed about this but chill it's just a computer and companies have already said the problem will be dealt with.

If we can afford to buy these things and this is all we have to worry about, I think our problems are rather minor-don't you :)?

samsung are offering refunds on SB systems, it's clear there's going to be a repair option which will take god knows how long and the 2nd hand value of product thats not failed yet regardless of whether it ultimately will or not will be ruined so I still think the best thing and the most customer friendly thing to do would be to either stop selling the boards until it's clear or stand up as customer champion and lean on the likes of asus to guarantee a swap out.

Yes you've got a warranty on your boards and I agree its scaremongering to talk about dead drives as thats never been the issue but most of us would be pretty lost without a pc and RTM mobo repairs can take forever even when there's not a backlog of faults from a design flaw, I think it would be best not to add to the problem for a quick buck.

I've seen one guy tho tested SB mobo and his SSD has gone ;-] Obviously nobody knows how much P6 chipset was involved, but fact is SSD is ruined. Mobo was MSI P67A-GD65, and there were two testers - one of them was fine, second was unlucky. Maybe someone knows this portal :)

You really are quite a sad little man. I know your life revolves around this forum (100k posts in 8 years is staggering) but that's no excuse for belittling the genuine concerns of others.

Your incessant ridiculing of anyone who disagrees with your often misinformed or narrow-minded point of view is seriously grating.

You've been wrong on so many occasions yet you lack any apparent humility or recognition that like it or not this issue is of serious concern to a number of people. I'm thankful that Gibbo is on the case on this because you - like in so many other threads past and present - have not contributed anything remotely constructive whatsoever.

this might sound stupid as i dont know much about computers but, i posted befor about my 2 ssd`s only scoring 5.9 in windows performce test! but it was in sata port 3 and 4 i thought they was in 1 , 2 so i just changed it and now it scores 7.5 why would it make that much differance? is it the sata ports above 2 are ****ed ?
