cross-shipping is a logistical minefield and would also require the collection of payment details.

The MSI UK plan is to have a replacement delivered to you two days after collection, we will control the date and rate of returns to ensure a same-day turnaround at the service centre.

Hi. From what I have read from Gigabyte you can get a refund for the motherboard but if you want an exchange you have to take your original back to the shop where you purchased from, doesn't say they will supply a board first or pay for a returned board courier, hope this isn't how it's goig to be as I think its pretty shoddy

What's to stop people RMA'ing the board back to their supplier for a refund after they've purchased and installed a replacement.

Also interesting to note that despite being such a logistical nightmare most of the motherboard manufacturers are doing exactly this in the US.

Now that things have quietened down a bit on this issue, I expect there are a lot of Sandy Bridge motherboard owners who are wondering, "I wonder if I should have registered my board anywhere", or "how will I be notified when a replacement is ready for me?"

Well, it may not be the same the all mobo manufacturers, but in the case of Asus UK, anyone who is at all concerned can call their Customer Services Dept on 0870 1208340 and select the 'other components' option.

I did this recently, and spoke to a very helpful agent in Estonia, who first checked my board's Serial Number, to confirm that it was actually one of affected ones and then, after taking my email address assured, me that my details will be added to their list and I would be contacted with further information in due course. He then gave me a call reference number, and again confirmed that the board will definately be replaced at no cost to myself.

You can't ask for more than that, at this time, I don't think.

do you need to add your details to their list?

i thought you would get a phone number, call it when you want yours replaced, and they set it all up, i know nothing about having to register before hand in order to get a replacement in the future.

You'd need to talk to your supplier about that.

we are looking into providing an online registration form for all users wanting a direct replacement (i.e. those who dont want to go through the trouble of arranging an RMA with a reseller and shipping it off to them)
once stock is avaialble we will then contact those end users who registered to arrange an exchange.

Please have some patience, i'm just finalising the arrangements, but it takes some time to get everything planned, confirmed and arranged.

what I can tell you at the moment is that we will ask end users to register their product with us (method not yet confirmed), then, once replacement (B3) stock is available we will arrange to collect the board, once the board is back at a service centre and it's been inspected we will ship the replacement.

As we don't expect to see stock this month & the deadline for registration is likely to be the end of April there is still plenty of time to get everything set up before we can start the exchanges.

wont be buying a msi mb then

Same, if this is how us UK consumers who pay over the odds are left without computers because of no fault of our own then i'll be damned if i'll buy another MSI motherboard again.

I'll be interested to see what other manufacturers do wrt goodwill and board swaps, as whoever offers cross shipments will be the one I go for next.

So it looks like I have to have 2 days off of work, 1 for the collection and another for delivery :@

If Overclockers offer cross shipments then I'd rather wait extra time for that service rather than the MSI Solution.

No, you obviously don't have to, and I am sure the information will be widely publicised in due course anyway, once the repalcement boards are actually available.

It is just that being a belt and braces (and string!) type of guy, I was just covering all options, and it now looks as if I will receive an email directly from Asus, in due course.

I am in no real hurry, but is is good to have positive re-assurance that my particular board WILL be replaced, assuming that I want it to be, of course!

i would be amazed if any motherboard manufacturer offers cross shipping in the UK, traditionally, UK consumers get treated like second class citizens in such matters.

& what has this got to do with what I said? did I say that you couldnt do that? You just need to talk to your supplier about that.

Absolutely disgusting way to treat customers with a problem that is no fault of their own.

I will never buy MSI, and I think you'll find this will be a growing trend around the internet as more forums get wind of this.

Ah nuts i just ordered an MSI board the other day. Do you think it is possible to buy a new mb, get it delivered, then send back your old mb for a refund to eliminate downtime?

Same, im in the process of buying a new Sb system and will now not be buying a MSI mobo..
