Sapphire GTO² available exclusively from OcUK and Modding instrutions inside.....

I bought a GTO last week, which should be here on Monday... luckily my friend was about to order one as well and he is now gonna take my GTO and ordered me a GTO2. Really looking forward to getting my hands dirty and making this into a bargain! :D

OK I am weak.... I couldn't resist setting ATI tool running whilst I went out...

Came back in and it had crashed at 688.5mhz on the core, rebooted pc and it's still working and happy - reset to defaults though.

Will run ati tool on mem and see what that gets to.

Regards,

Matt

Edit..mem gets to 560 mhz and is artifact free.

P.S. This is all with standard cooler by the way.

Hi,

Found this thread almost by accident and decided that the card looked like a bit of a steal... especially at the new lower price... providing of course that the flashing and O/C works OK!

Have previously flashed a few BIOS's and optical drives successfully, so will keep my fingers crossed on this one.

I was actually quite impressed with OcUK's service... I ordered the card early yesterday (Friday) morning, and decided to go for Special Delivery, just in case it went astray. Anyway, it was delivered by 10 am this morning, well protected by loads of thick bubble wrap, and was packed, together with a selection of leads and adaptors (which have been detailed elsewhere) and even a Sapphire driver CD and a case label, all contained in a strong(ish) cardboard box.

Next step now is to whip the 800XT out of my Cube, and give it a whirl!

lol, 688.5mhz ????? your lucky you didnt kill it. ATI tool has been known to carry on going despite the GPU not wanting too, be careful :)

p.s. if i post you mine, can you flash it for me... ive been sat here for 3 hours with it in front of me, im too scared to do anything with it LOL

also which bios should i flash it with ??? theres a few different ones floating around ?? :/

LOL, I was surprised it went that high, have left it at deafult clocks at the mo just to make sure everything is working fine.

I downloaded the bios off techpowerup and used that and it's worked fine since installing it.

Regards,

Matt

Bubble Wrap, i had nothing just cables and the card in anti static bag, in a jiffy bag.

But just a thin jiffy bag is not really suitable protection for a graphics card, OEM or not. My card has a bent back plate where the postie has played football with it. Will wait and see if it still works.

Maybe I was lucky, mine came in a box, to be fair if it arrived in a Jiffy bag I might have been slightly annoyed. To be honest you do get more than the usual OEM stuff I have bought.

well seems someone has been reading the posts and have started packing them a bit better now as mine was just a jiffy bag bundled with the 9600se i got for some one elses pc not complaining as it wasnt damaged in anyway just glad our postie is careful around here hehe

Hence the term "OEM"

Mine now shows as X800/X850 series, and running past XTPE speeds without problem. Best buy for ages.

whats with the rolleyes mate?

i got mine in a box. with a driver cd.

run 16pipes fine, max 610 on the ram. i havent really read *** rest of the thread, but i dont seem to have a temp sensor on the card. is that right?

I never went to get it sorted, couldnt be bothered with the drive and all the hassle around the retail park, i will go on monday 9am when its quiet.

Mine card does seem to have a slight bend in it, i hope it is ok as i dont want to be sending it back.

BTW...

How come your all using ATI tool for the clocking.
Mine arrived this morning and I see it has some Trixx OC software on the CD that's included.

Unfortunately though, I dont get to play with mine until later next week, when my PCI mobo turns up.

OMG - I Think it worked ....... I thing it worked .... well gonna check 16 pipelines are on then install the drivers .... ( Will get back to you with further detials ) DONT use the bios at the start of the thread i used the techpower flashrom and bios!!! GOOD LUCK EVERYONE

Flash Didnt work Card Dead?

Ive just tried flashing my GTO2 with the modded bios.
It seemed to work although it took about 30 seconds before the display came on.
I though Id reinstall the drivers as when it booted up it was on the windows default display.
I removed the ATI sotware by using the Add Remove in the Control Panel, clicked OK to restart. When the pc rebooted there was no display just a black screen.
Obviously someting has gone wrong with the flashing of the bios though I feel I did it correctly.
Is it possible to use a pci card to boot with and then flash the GTO2 again if so would I need a Nvidia pci card so the system recognises it is the GTO2 Im trying to flash. Or would I be better off just RMA-ing the GTO2.

@ sculptor pci gfx would work but you could also flash it blind which is what i did after my first flash failed  not recomended though if your new to flashing but seeing as it beeps when done you will know if its done.
as for rma didnt you read the small print on the buy page once flashed your warranty is void
