Sapphire GTO² available exclusively from OcUK and Modding instrutions inside.....

is there any way at all to flash this card with a cd drive instead of a floppy? i really cant be arsed to buy a floppy then fit it if im only going to use it once...

You'd just need to write the files that you would put on the boot floppy onto a CD...

EDIT:
...except they'd need to be able to write to the CD I think... so you probably wouldn't be able to do it that way. Sorry.

Hi.

Are we all certain that we shouldn't load the ati drivers while still in standard setup before performing the flash?

Only, I'm building a PC from scratch with this card, and thought it might be more sensible to make sure the things works properly first before meddling with it.

Thanks.

Hi there

When installing these cards you should first of all do the following:-

1. Make your bios boot disk, use techpowerup guide!!
2. Download latest ATI CAT drivers.
3. Uninstall current drivers.
4. Power off!!
5. Insert GTO2
6. Boot from floppy disk, run bios flash programme as per instructions.
7. Reboot and install CAT drivers and all should be running fine.

:)

Hi Benskia,

As this is a brand new build I would be inclined to check the card out with the standard ATI drivers at 'normal' settings first, to ensure that everything else works OK, and then run the check as suggested in the techPowerup! guide so as to be 100% sure that your particular card is moddable. Then proceed with the 'modding', carefully following the steps in the guide.

Good Luck!

You are a wise man, ofcourse u should check that the card works in 12-pipe mode because its only at this time that u are fully entitled to return the card as defective. These cards are not pre-tested at OcUK and they do not guarentee that the will work as shipped. Modding the bios invalidates the warrenty and OcUK tell u that when u send in the webform note, and its stated on the product description.

Also the drivers have no effect on the number of pipes running since its controlled via the bios and is not a soft-mod, therefore driver reinstallation wont be necessary (if u already have the latest ATI catalyst drivers). Its always sensible to start at defaults before changing settings, because otherwise u have no idea if the product is working as intended.

Sure but the point is the card will use the same exactly the same drivers wether its 12 or 16 pipelines so u dont need to worry about using drivercleaner ect to deleted registry entries. Its not like ** going from Nv to ATI, or cat 5.8 to 5.9.

No need to worry about changing the bios before u install the drivers. In fact thats just asking for trouble (see my previous post). :)

Sweet. That's great to know.
I know that the mod is a bios update, but just some folks previously said they had trouble with their OS detecting the card correctly in ATI tool after they flashed it.

I'm probably going to run for a few days in standard mode anyway.

It's going to take me AGES to get all my SW reloaded properly onto the new system.

Cheets,

On this pic there is a molex that hasn't been connected to the motherboard, it's up inbetween the heatpipe and gcard - double check your manual and see if that needs power?

Matt

Its a bew build everything is new except the PSU.

I have the new ATI X800 GTO2, i connected it to my hdd power lead and then pluged in a psu 4 pin thing conntor (which is said to do on the graphics card anti static bag). The fan on the card spins, the memory lights come on normal, the hdd spins, the cpu fan spins. I just cant see anything on screen, i dont hear anything from the mobo speaker, also i cant turn it off with the case button, i think its hanging.

I have the Following Spec:

AMD Athlon 64 3800 32/64Bit CPU S939
ASUS A8N-Sli Prem
ATI X800 GTO2
Vantec 420A PSU
1 Gb (2 x 512Mb) Corsair TwinX, DDR, PC3200C2PRO
250Gb Western Digital WD2500JS Caviar SE (7200rpm,8Mb) - SATA II
19" Hyundai ImageQuest B90A TFT Monitor - Silver/Black 8ms 1280x1024

Not quite sure where cheets64 last quote came from, but I do recall him mentioning in an earlier post that his card had a slight bend in it... could it have possibly been damaged in some way either before, or even during shipping I wonder?... I hope not though, for his sake!

That molex is used when you have 2 graphics cards installed, it power the 2nd PCI-E slot, i tried putting my graphics card in both slots, but still nothing.

I did a last chance build last night, and it still gives me the same problem, i have email my local pc shop, it was a lengthy email, detailing my problems. I am hoping to go down tomorrow or later and see what up with it.

Cheets,

OK...

May be worth asking questions over in the motherboard section for tips on what is going on.

Do you get any of the diagnostic lights come on?

Regards,

Matt

I get the green power led, and my memory has leds on top and they go green, yellow and red, then back to green, but i have that memory in this pc now, so i know it works.

I am gonna read the through the whole thread now, its about 11 pages long, but the manual for this motherboard has no help in it what so ever.

Cheets,

Ok good luck with it - let us now how you get on.

If you were closer you could have tried my x300 pcie gcard.

Regards,

Matt

P.S. Have you tried the mem in differnt slots e.g. 1 & 3 or 1 & 4, 1 & 2, 2 & 4???
