SAPPHIRE RX 480 NITRO NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER AT OVERCLOCKERS UK (WORLD FIRST) !!!

And when was the last time that happened?

I can't even remember those blessed days.

Power consumption is definitely not the only reason to choose a card over another, frankly who cares about saving a few quid here and there?

The performance and the temperature the cards run at however, that one is. My point was that AMD did not get the right balance between the three factors yet, that's all, it wasn't meant to be rude or anything. Just another topic for discussion. And they might even get it, we don't know anything about the next cards AMD will come up with. It will be interesting to see whenever that happen though. If this big Vega is indeed a powerful card then AMD will have to improve on several things and that's always a good thing.

Hi everyone. I am very excited to own this card, been waiting for an upgrade for so long. I even made the jump to 1440p 144hz for this card!! (although sadly 144hz probably wont be achievable for a while)

However, I have to say how very, very disappointed I am over Overclockers customer service. This is the firs time I have purchased here, and i wont be again.

I pre-ordered this card back on the 10th. They immediately took payment for the card. I thought this to be unusual, but i suspect it was just how they did things, and probably to try curb canceled orders.
So i get a receipt. and wait patiently till the 22nd. In this time i am excited because i cant play anything for a long time now with no GPU capable of powering 1440p right now.
Comes 22d i check my emails hoping for a dispatch notice. Nothing.
I check the website. It still says "pre order, ETA 22nd". I find this unusual.

two days later, the website still says "pre order" but now with no ETA. What? so now people are expected to buy something, have payment taken instantly, and have no idea when/if they will get the card?

To make thigns worse, and this really takes the cake... there has been no email communicated. nothing. They haven't send me an email on delays, or when they expect to dispatch. Or to conform that the cards have arrived with their enterprise from sapphire yet? Nothing. No communication what so ever.

I wont be home for the next week as I am going on holiday, so now i dont have any way to know when ti will be posted, and how i will collected it.

This has been such an awful experience for a simple pre order. all that overclockers needed to do was email me one time with some rough outline of the procedure ahead, but nothing. And they have my money still, yet I am in the unknown if i will even receive this card as of now.

Make a post about that in here https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=116 you might get some answers :)

In the future I'd recommend only ordering once the product is in stock. It's quite common practice for e-tailers to take immediate payment for preorders, it's certainly not just OCUK doing this.

I see you mentioned you now have a 1440P 144Hz monitor and are unable to play games on it. I'd recommend setting it to 1080P, you'll get black borders around the game but it will look and run well on a lesser GPU, until you new one arrives.

Thank you! I will try both of your suggestions. I feel bad for complaining, but it has caused my inconvenience in more than one way.

waiting for a card and not knowing when it will be delivered can make many people twitchy. OC has good service and seems to get stock before many others, so I'd suggest to cut them some slack, if you can.

As bad as it feels, and as much as I myself can't wait for this card as it will be a massive upgrade for me too, you shouldn't really blame Overclockers UK for something that I'm 100% sure is due to NDAs by AMD and their partners. Sure it might have been nice to get an email, but all it would really have been able to do is give you the same rough ballparks for timing that you already had and say sorry for not being able to be more specific.

I've been keeping up with the news on this thread, however not all pre-orderers will be, so I think some email updates should have been sent. Apart from that I think ocuk have been doing thier best to get hold of the first batch of cards available anywhere.

Will the 480 even cut it at 1440P, it certainly wouldn't be my choice at that res.

Well you've complained very nicely :-)
I'm in same boat, bought 1440 monitor and pre-ordered this card and my current GFX card is very old. I've been monitoring this thread on the forum so knew about the delays (it's still a bit unclear when I'll get it!).
I think you've got a fair point, an email saying they wouldn't make the delivery date they specified would be polite and useful. Hang in there :D

Everything I've read seems to indicate ultra/maxxed game settings at 1080 and decent 1440p gaming- I've bought a freesync monitor so hoping that coupled with the Saphire 480 will make 1440p gaming run nicely even if I can't run ultra settings in Doom etc. As the 480 will do crossfire buying another at later date when prices drop and budget allows will be an option.

Crossfire is junk though, so glad to have moved back to a single card.

A valid point about crossfire - I think the 480 is a stop gap now though. I've needed an upgrade for a while and the price/power of the 480 has tempted me to part with some cash.

Mmm yeah, ask around here what people think of XFX cards.

Its kinda like... pull the pin, lob and run like hell. :D

HA! :D

As said on Friday, I did change the TIM today and saw temps drop from 93-95 (i.e. on the verge of throttling) to 77 under load. I had to void what was left of the 2 year warranty to remove the excessive TIM that was on there. Photo in spoiler tags.

Shocking. This card has been too hot since it was new, and that ^ is why. Sorry for going OT. Original point I was making on Friday was I was fed up with hot AMD cards and hoped RX 480 might be different.

Hey guys, i also pre-ordered this card thinking that it would be on the 22nd. I am making a jump from HD 5770 xfire < Haha I laughed a little bit when I found out how much of a dinosaur my graphics card was, this nitro should give it a good boost!

Anyways, I was emailing them back and forth to figure out if my pre order was placed and which exact version I bought and what days will they be delivered and what place I was on the order.

I used amazon USA to pay. They have not charged me. They will charge me when they ship the item. This is what they said after I asked them.

So I am just hoping it will not be until the 5th of Aug and hope for it to arrive sooner... I am in the 300s in queue. I live in the USA... So I get 4 or more days of waiting after shipment. Hope this helps answer some questions.

People need to appreciate that an ETA is not a commitment, it is an estimate and like all estimates likely to vary nearer the time. This is why i haven't pre-ordered an RX 480 and will wait until they show as "in stock" before ordering.

Up until last week (when it died on me), my reference 480 was doing quite nicely at 1440p. I'd been playing Doom (Vulkan) on ultra at a solid 60+ fps and I only had the occasional dropped frame when it was powering my HTC Vive.

I've RMA'd the reference and pre-ordered the Nitro+ OC. Hopefully it won't be too much longer before they arrive as my backup GTX760 just wont cut it with the Vive :/
