SAPPHIRE RX 480 NITRO NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER AT OVERCLOCKERS UK (WORLD FIRST) !!!

How can Sapphire have available the newly released 470 when the 480's are still not available.

The 470's are cut down 480's so maybe they have enough chips with some bad stream processors to make into 470's. It would be interesting to see if the 480 shortage is due to huge demand or just poor yields.

If there's no update by the end of the weekend from OcUK about the stock for the Sapphire or Powercolor I'm just going to cancel and get something else.

I placed my order 4 weeks ago, and OcUk aren't even sending out emails about delays. :|

So I was thinking of how to put to use all that extra space behind the vents where air passes straight through the card without actually making any contact with the heatsink.

I have an idea but my knowledge of physics and heat dissipation isn't good enough to know if this would be a waste of time.

My mate knocked up this model for me to show what i'm thinking, what do you guys think? do you reckon it will have any positive effect on the heat dissipation or not?

Essentially the plan would be to line the top edge of the heatsink with some small copper RAM heatsinks so that the fins are in the path of the air flowing through.
The only thing i don't know is if these heatsinks would heat up enough since they only make contact with a single fin of the stock heatsink. (although i would place them as close to the heatpipes as poossible)

So... for those happy to wait, have we been doing any Steam shopping in preparation? I certainly have :-)

New games I've purchased are Doom and Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor. I'm not sure Doom looks that fun but I wanted to see Vulcan in all its glory. I haven't even looked to see what kind of a game Shadow of Mordor is but they use it in a lot of benchmarks and it seems like my kind of game! (darn Steam sales)

I've also pre-installed Crysis & Bioshock 2 - never played either (again, Crysis is more just to see what all the hype is about). My best mate will want me to play Squad so I've put that on too but not overly excited about that one.

WoW is on, I know it doesn't need a 480 but it's nice to crank all the settings up without the card having to work to hard. Oh and Battlefield 4, again not my favorite game but fun after a few drinks especially if it's running nice & smooth.

I suspect the 480 will only be challenged in the first two @1080p?

Not played the first two, Doom seems just generic to me so i'm going to pass Shawdow of Mordor I have heard nothing but good comments about it, was a surprise hit no one expected it to be that good and it turned out fantastic.

The first Crysis was ok but it was used more of a benchmark because at the time it needed so much power to run it.

Bioshock 2 is great i loved it, though as a whole it got mixed reviews but i enjoyed it a lot.

Personally i'm looking forward to restarting Fallout4 my 7790 struggled so much I gave up it was playable but dropped in FPS so much sometimes into the teens and single digits very briefly.

I also reinstalled Dishonored and Deus Ex in anticipation for the sequels.

Other than that I only plan on buying the new Deus Ex game and Civ 6 in the next couple of months.

Even if we're lucky enough for it to be here on the 5th tomorrow, last time I ordered something from Ireland on a Friday I got it on the wednesday. So 10th Aug is the best case scenario for something ordered mid July.

Safe to say this really put a downer on my Holidays. Going back to Uni in 4 weeks, spent the holidays on Integrated graphics, I expected to atleast have August to play some games. Fun times :( :(

What's really annoying me is the lack of feedback. According to Gibbo the Powercolor cards were supposed to have arrived two weeks ago.

What's worse is he said Powercolor told him they haven't shipped anywhere, yet there are folks in USA on Reddit that bought some at retailers and have them.

OcUK were supposed to be world first for Sapphire Nitro stock, and yet there are once again folks elsewhere somehow buying them.

We don't even get an email from them about our orders saying there are delays, or forums posts. Just nothing...it doesn't help.

Powercolor just passing on what they told me, maybe they lie.

Sapphire, we have already shipped close to 200pc of Nitro out over a week ago, so we were first, we still have over 1000 backorders to clear and more stock is arriving next week.

So of course if 10 units goes to a competitor with no pre-orders then of course they show in stock, Sapphire made it clear to me that whereas OcUK was getting 90% of UK allocation on Nitro 480, the other 10% would indeed show up elsewhere in stock as those resellers never took pre-orders like OcUK did.

I agree it's upsetting, just look at the thread title, it promises so much.

The only reason I have not cancelled it because I've already waited so long and I am just assuming its right around the corner. If they told me when I ordered it that it'd would be this late I would not have placed the order.

If this does end up being a late August delivery I'll be very upset they couldn't just admit it early on so I didn't have to waste my summer waiting and got somet else
