Since when was the stock Sapphire RX480 the same price as the Nitro+ OC, that's crazy. A sign of things to come? Has the 470 come along and forced the 480 pricing up rather than introduced a new price level below it?
As has been said elsewhere, the level of stock available for the 470 makes it look remarkably like the 480 yields might be terrible, something I believe is also suggested by the stepping/revision of the GPU itself. Things do not look good for Vega if this process is involved.

Agreed, always been happy with OCUK customer service given I've been using you guys for what must be 16+ years :eek:

... until now at least.

Updates on these via email to all customers would be hugely appreciated, managing expectations in the long run would probably save you sales too. I've cancelled two pre-orders in the last 2 months just because of lack of updates.

It's all most likely down to GlobalFoundries, their 14nm FinFet seems terrible; in fact the same Samsung 14nmFinFet used in the iPhone runs hotter and uses more power than the 16nmFF TSMC chip in the same phones.

The new Xbox OneS's AMD SOC is also made at TSMC using 16nm, and they're pumping out plenty of those now.

I really hope AMD move to TSMC if possible, GF isn't able to get out enough quality GPUs at all.

Also the 470 is all down to price gouging it seems, that and AIBs taking liberties on extra price as well.

AMD reportedly just lowered the MSRP to £169 as well since their partners ( ASUS ) are charging too much.

*Update 15:10: AMD has now reduced the pricing of the entry-level reference-designed RX 470 to £165. Given that move, Asus may need to rethink the Strix's value proposition.

In regards to our Pre-Orders if I don't hear something, anything soon I'm out. I'll have to cancel and order something else. Trying to do video work on a 6670 is dire, and it's been a month now. 2 Weeks since the Powercolor cards were supposed to have shipped as well.

Some of the 470's we're already at £169 here on OCUK.

As for the manufacturing... AMD used to own part of GF, but i think they divested a long time ago.

What i have seen mentioned on this forum is that the Polaris architecture was initially designed for a larger process and then shrunk down to fit the 14nm one. The current hope (in which all us AMD constantly live

) is that Vega will be designed for 14nm from the ground up.

There's nothing in stock at the price so the current listed pricing means nothing sadly.
The few that are in stock cost as much as the 4GB 480 MSRP.
Remember, Gibbo himself said the 8GB 480 was supposed to be a £199 card.

I think there has been talk about it since the time they first announced Polaris that Vega would be TSMC ,but i am not sure if there is anything concrete announced?They are however using TSMC for the new Xbox SoC's so who knows ?

All the usual suspect rumour sites list Vega as a GloFo 14nm product.

After all the **** ups, you have to assume that AMD still use them because they are contractually obliged to. So Vega will be GloFlo like Polaris.

When AMD spun off its fabs they agreed to use GloFlo exclusively for so many years. Perhaps Microsoft is able to avoid this because it's a semi-custom chip with design input from by MS, not a pure AMD product?

Yes and it would have being £199, but then we left EU and the pound weakened against all other currencies making nearly all computer components 10% more expensive throughout the UK.

Don't blame AMD for prices being 10% higher than they should.

Which Sapphire card is the better one? The RX 480 4GB memory at 7000MHz or the RX 470 8GB memory at 8000MHz
The price is about the same and the RX 470 is in stock

I would think the 480 would be better as the chips are binned I believe.

Might be lucky with the GPU lottery though, you never know.

Was arguing this via web notes all day yesterday. They don't know any firm dates or quantities so customer who bought and paid could wait months more before seeing their purchase, everything is speculation.
In the process of switching to a Devil instead because the queue is shorter. I would have refunded but refunding takes about a week to process so not worth it yet (in case of new delivery from Powercolor).
