Sat NAv

Mine is the 2100Max get that it has a 4.3" screen, tmc in the charging cable, and v7 of the software the 2100 is the old version. Sorry should have said I had the max earlier.

AWESOME TO THE MAX!

Will have a play around tomorrow morning after topping up my coolant and also screenwash lawls.

Bet they told you that the Navigon is rubbish as well?? Its almost as funny as when the purple shirt brigade try to talk technical.

I've had my Navigon 2100max now for just over a week and am really impressed, it got good maps, is pretty quick, the TMC and Text to Speech work well and for £99 + the updates it great. Probably gonna sell the TomTom 530T now...

I'm also looking at the Navigon 2100 Max... does it have any niggles or bad points in your opinion? I've read a lot of negative revews on it (and a lot of positive), but they appear to be US-based and using older software. Many mention slow satellite fix and lack of POIs... can you comment on these points?

The Sony NV-U83 is also being offered at a cheap price, but Sony have discontinued sat navs in Europe, so I fear that support and updates will be short lived... what does everyone think?

I've not noticed a lack of POI with just the defaults on it shows petrol stations etc with the right brand shown with the appropriate icon.

Sat lock doesn't seem bad at all, its usually got a lock by the time I've finished plugging it in and reversed off my drive. I have to say the new software is a big improvement on v6, everything seems quicker to me.

I've read the same, GPS and POI issues are both things I'd be concerned about - which is why I was looking at the Navman's instead, how would you say it was flakey exactly J1nxy?

The Sony runs a cut down version of Navigon v6 and having tried its big brother the u93t I'd avoid the u83. for the money the 2100 max is significantly better.

I found my s90i was crashing a fair bit and quiet often picked so odd routes.

Unless the reviews are recent they will be only of v6 of the Navigon software not v7 which is now installed and as I've said is a big improvement in many ways over v6 including speed and accuracy of routes.

What would you want in POI? I can have a look and see but personally I don't use them very much, just notice when I drive past a shell petrol station the right symbol is shown etc

TrustedReviews posted a review a couple of months ago, which was very favourable - but did mention length of time to acquire a position and signal strength in built up areas a problem - how have you found it?

Just found out that the Navigon 2210 and 2200 are being released this month... don't know what the differences are compared to the 2100 Max... I'm going to throw an email over to Navigon asking for more details.

Basically its the replacement for the 2100 and 2110 which are the smaller 3.5" units. Its aimed at the TomTom one market space and similar from garmin etc.

The 2100max is a higher spec device, with the 4.3" screen etc. They do both run the latest v7 of the Navigon software.

To be honest the 2100max at £99 is a bargain at the moment.

I have a Garmin streetpilot c550, its not slim or anything, but it was faultless under extensive use when i worked down south.

ive used a tom tom but i was more happy with the mapping and menus on the garmin. But i doubt you can go wrong with either really

Ok I checked out the Navigon and whilst it is nice it lacs the realtime Odometer section that the Garmin units all have which I find very useful! not even the TomTom devices have this so it's a shame!
