Saturday 8th December Boxing! **SPOILERS**

Thinking about where Hatton goes from here now tbh I don't know.

He just doesn't seem to be a welterweight wether his punching power doesn't move up as he goes up the 7lbs or whatever it is he's fought twice at welter now and he's lost once and nearly lost once.

There was a lot of talk about facing De La Hoya at Wembley next summer before the fight but De La Hoya has won world titles at middleweight! What weight would they fight at? Don't think DLH has even fought at welterweight for years and there's no way Hatton could do any higher weight.

Maybe it's time to close Junior Witters cakehole once and for all ;)

Gutted for Hatton but Mayweather = supreme. Impeccable defence and accuracy of punching, I've never seen anyone fight that well.

Great fight Ricky, maybe with a little help from the ref things would have been different, but cest la vie, it wasnt to be..

Imo I had floyd up by 3 at the time of the Ko, but ricky put his heart and soul into the performance and this time it wasnt enough.

To be fair he brought out the best performance I have ever seen from PBF, so I think ricky can be nothing but proud in the way he approached the fight.

Bravo Gentlemen and thanks for an awesome nights boxing :)

Just woke up. Couldn't get the fight over here in London over NTL thanks to them being utter cack over here. Quickly checked the BBC to see the bad news. I'm proud of Hatton, he's a top man.

Same here! Just got up from a drunken night out and the first thing i did was stick sky sports news on. I'm gutted for him, i really thought he was going to do it. :(

How much have Mayweather and Hatton made on this fight?

Last figures I heard were that the purse was about 6 million for Hatton and double that for Mayweather, not sure if that was dollars or pounds though.

Having read a fight report I can't say I'm overly surprised with the way Mayweather played it although it does seem a pity that the referee was so zealous. Mayweather does deserve his P4P rating and might well be one of the greatest of all time.

Just watched on Sky Box Office.

Knock down in round 10 was awesome.

Mayweather hit witha left and pivotted out of the way at the same time. Hatton went crashing into the corner and then the floor.

Whoever said Africans were all about pace and speed? This boy has skill, tactics and precision.

Mayweather is indeed that good I guess!

I'm disappointed for Ricky, but he's shown himself to be a true champion. Willing to move up in weight and risk his undefeated status to fight the no.1 pound-for-bound boxer in the world.. not many would do that..

Mayweather was ducking and darting his head around all over the place. Hatton on the other hand was a fixed target.

Still he's got $10M for the trouble.

A good boxer will always beat a brawler.

Have to agree in some ways, as much as I wanted Ricky to win he is more of a brawler than a masterful boxer.
I also wonder where Hatton will go from here, as watching that not many other boxers will want to fight him as he is so aggressive, its just 12 rounds of hell unless you're someone like mayweather.

Was very disappointed that the fans couldnt respect the american national anthem that was out of order imo and mayweather didnt deserve the booeing he got at the end of the fight either.

Just shows why british fans have a bad rep abroad imo

A good boxer will always beat a brawler.

I disagree with that.

At the time, Vernon Forrest was recognised as one of the best boxers in the game when Mayorga (a pure brawler) beat him twice. He also beat 'Six Heads' Lewis who also was raved about as a really good boxer.

Your phrase would be more accurate if you said "An exceptional boxer will always beat a brawler" but even then, any boxer can get hit with a punch they didn't see coming.

In recent times, I guess Ponce De Leon smashing Bautista inside a round was a brawler beating a boxer.

The Guardian said:
English passion losing out to foreign technique. Passion is, of course, a lot easier to deliver than technique.

Interesting quote I have just read in the guardian....

Anyone think Hatton bit too much in the build up to the fight not seen the fight and tried to KO MW in the fight to soon.
Definately imo.

The gamble Hatton took was that by rounds 6-7 onwards, Mayweather would be more drained from taking the punches than Hatton would be from throwing them. In reality Hatton was spent possibly even earlier than that, while Mayweather looked like he could have easily gone on for a good few more rounds.

Just watching the replay now, the ref does give Hatton a warning for hitting behind the head in the 1st. The frequency of which Cortez is stepping in is just ridiculous though.

I watched the weigh in when hatton took the mic and said "lets ******* have him" the look on MW face was one of a man that was not going to be beaten.

.

I think its the reverse if anything, there is always an exception that proves the rule.
A handful of examples over 100 years of professional boxing doesn't disprove my statement.
History is full of examples of craft beating brute force in all walks of life.
