Saving Sessions / Demand reduction thread

Yes but I'm surprised they ever give cheap slots in the 16:00 - 19:00 window, as those are typically the most expensive agile ones.

It sounds like they will probably close down that loophole sooner or later.

I heard there was a trick with Octopus Go or w/e where you can make your car charger super slowly and extend the cheap window artificially? :D
Yeah but that time slot is always the most expensive, its always 35p minimum on agile so why can they offer it to others for 7.5p? I think all this gaming will just lead to the eventual fixed rate of export during saving sessions rather than using baselines that can be played.

I think the percentage of people gaming it is going to be fairly low, you've got to have an EV and be on the correct tariff.

Apart from not exporting like I used to every peak period there's no way for me to game it.
The thing is they option to game shouldnt even be there, selling very cheap energy at the peak time makes no sense and goes completely against what the tariff is meant to be designed for.

Micro-demand management? Probably a small enough segment it makes little difference overall.

That baseline is high considering your solar etc, have you been using more electric than usual in the saving session times on purpose?

Seems like a risky move as you can't tell if there will be saving sessions or not necessarily, and only the last X days count for it.

I'm on IOG. As soon as I plug my car in they give me a 7.5p slot. No idea why but i'm happy to use it. Home today at 15:30. Battery down to 8% (because I manually exported it all earlier in the day). So for 2 hours i'll charge car and battery. Then dump battery from 17:30. Then charge till 19:30 and if battery is 100% start dumping again. Rinse and repeat tomorrow.

So far this month I've drawn 917.1 and exported 414.7. So a cost to me (plus standing charge) of £6.58. This saving session should put me in profit for the month. I've had 2 Octopus signups and my FIT paying PV has generated over a 100 units so far. That's worth over £50.

2024 could be a mega year for energy profit.

I've got a surprisingly high baseline figure (around 0.7kwh) so thats a nice start.
I haven't been really aiming to use grid from 5-7pm as its so cold I rarely have much battery by 5pm bar the last few days anyway.

However if it looks like the sessions are starting up again I may look to eliminate battery usage from 5-7pm again, apart from strong solar days.

I'm on 98.9% of 14+kwh batteries, they don't pay me to export so I'm keeping it! :)

I got my baseline from the saving sessions calculator website

I think I exported around 4.5kWh and had a baseline of 0.01.

I've got my fingers crossed this works and the meter stores the readings because at the moment Octopus can't seem to get my meters and IHD working together.
When they first installed them all, the electric meter and IHD worked, but the gas meter wasn't communicating and submitting readings.
After a couple of months of me chasing them and asking what's going on? They sent another engineer out about 10 days ago, who swapped the communication module on the elec meter and changed the whole gas meter for a different type.
Since then my elec meter has stopped communicating and my IHD can't connect to anything, but my gas meter is sending (delayed) readings according to the website and app.
I've spoken to Octopus, sent them photos of the electric meter and the IHD barcode, and now they say they need to send out another engineer, but there's no appointments in the area until the 19th Feb.
I wouldn't be surprised if after this visit nothing works at all..
