Yeah that makes sense, I don't think it makes sense for Octopus to give anyone cheap import in the usually expensive part of the day though, they may stop that if they think it's being abused.

Meanwhile, may as well use it I suppose!
 
I don't know why they do it. I can only assume they know there's capacity in the system so they offer it up. Over time I expect it to reduce. Initially I would plug in and get slots split up in 30 min chunks. Some at peak but mostly starting after 23:30.

This year though it's always full charge when I plug the car in. Sooner or later i'll get burnt and plug in with a fully exported home battery and not get a slot. When that happens i'll adjust my routine.

Remember the hdmi plugs you used to get for graphic cards for crypto mining. I've already thought somebody could invent a dongle to plug into chargers to make them think a car is there.

Is it region dependent though? Do those cheap slots co-incide with powerups or any other event? or is it literally you plug in and bang its 7.5p?

My time of use tariff went to 9p!

Charger, through Zappi. request to be ready by 04:00 and then I adjust the car ready time through HA at 05.30, 07.30 and 09.00 to get the additional morning slots, but never had anything offered prior to 11pm.

It could be region based, yes. The slots are allocated in 30 min chunks. Some times you'll get 30 mins and then a 2 hour gap and another 30 mins. recently (all this year). I am being given solid blocks as soon as i plug in. All charged at the 7.5p rate.
