Yes it is quite fast and it happens at 3k revs now aswell.

When going over bumpy surfaces I can also hear it rattling.

How do I get to the heat shield?

It'll be the big metal cover over the exhaust pipe where it comes down the front of, and passes under the engine. Give it a prod (when it's cold!) and see if it's loose or rattly.

Thats only on the VTS. The VTR one is just on the very top of the exhaust manifold and is held in by the lamda sensor so doesn't really tend to rattle.

I would check the downpipe to gearbox mounting bracket, if it is loose tighten it up and it should get rid of the sound. However I had this problem when I first got my T reg VTR, however after about 5k miles it came back again so I replaced the rear engine/gearbox mount and tightened it up at the same time. I never had any problems after this.

Another problem Ive noticed!

The engine is poping when the engine revs drop from about 3k.. not sure whats causing it as the exhaust/air filter are standard!

Any ideas?

Overfueling

Could be lamda sensor or even airflow sensor.

edit: could just be a leak in the exhaust somewhere, check joins.

Probably the exhaust since the economy is OK. Ill get it checked out tommorow

Well I'm not mechanically minded and I don't want to cause more damage by messing with things.

Is this gearbox mounting bracket easy to find?

do any VTR owners here notice the engine note changing at 4k rpm? and a nice wave of torque in between 2-3.5k rpm?

Haha I thought it was just mine!

I showed my mate earlier that its just a bit more than a bog standard saxo 1.1 on a long sliproad onto the motorway. Easily gets up to silly speeds if you give it some welly

The car feels pretty nippy in 2nd gear when the torque builds up, and then the car pulls at 4-6k

Pretty slow in all the other gears though!

yeah i find it pulls fairly well in town from 15-30 in 2nd

bearing in mind my car is 110kg heavier, the VTR must be fun

yes 206 1.6GLX - same engine as the VTR, not sure if the gearbox is the same though, compare it to this and see:

Only just!

However, the Zetec S doesnt fall apart and isnt french

I'd have a Zetec S over a VTR any day no chav image and is better specced.

I dont have a Zetec S....honest
