I can't see myself as anything other than British. We are one and the same - fought in wars side by side for centuries.

The number of Scots who have moved south and the number of English who have moved north is phenomenal. We interact, we marry, we live as one and nothing should change that.

I dont care, but if they have independence, they shouldn't get any grants, any help and any choice on English politics. However they want all that whilst being independent. So I suppose I'll have to vote no.

The UK as a single country has existed far longer than many other modern nations have. I'd hate to see those 300 years of history together thrown away, especially given that England and Scotland came to be united under entirely peaceful means.

Well, I know it's pedantic, but London doesn't create a net debt IIRC.

Either way we'd cut 10% off are debt each year..

London is not a country and you'll find most countries capitals don't produce debt (err because they are the nation's capitals of course.)

Also if you had 10% less population that means 10% less tax. So you'll have to find 10% more to pay for iraq and tridents replacement. Rathier simplistic I know but you started it :p

I doubt if Edinburgh creates debt either.

As a proud Englishman I long for the day when I am given the opportunity to vote SNP. Goodbye to bad rubbish, let us English no longer waste our hard earned money on northern peasants. Also, I would gladly pay twice the tax I do presently to fund the rebuilding of Hadrian's Wall, twice as high as the original design.

A winking smilie would have been more appropriate.
I'm afraid your sarcasm doesn't come across well over the internet. Or maybe I mean ;)

Personally i think you would have to be pretty stupid not to see the joke with or without a smiley.
And BTW  = sarcasm for future reference.

would be nice if you kept your politicians votes confined to scotland along with independence tbh.

Don't blame the Scots for that one, blame the system (or more directly Labour on this one). If Scotland were to be fully independent then Scottish MPs couldn't vote on English matters, as a matter of policy though if the issue doesn't affect Scotland it is only fair that Scottish MPs shouldn't vote on it.

Hahaha or is this not a joke? As has been mentioned, pretty much everywhere but London is a net drain on the UK economy.

Personally I'm not too bothered if Scotland should split off from the rest of the UK. There are a lot of issues that need resolved, including EU membership which would need renegotiation (and England would probably have to do so as well) but I believe if necessary Scotland could make a decent fist of it although I'm fairly happy with the status quo. That said, instinctively I'm quite fond of my Southern neighbours, they may talk funny and have an overinflated sense of their sporting worth but they generally aren't a bad sort aside from that. ;)

How about we take back pretty much the whole heirarchy of the current government then?

:p

Have what you want, I don't care for English issues. You leave us alone we leave you alone. :)

Unless I'm wrong the only other party advocating independence was the Greens.

And they've allied themselves with the SNP.

How did you vote?

I feel that the SNP are a bit too left-leaning/pro-EU for my liking. I vote for them to get independence but then vote for someone else once they give up power.

I don't doubt that the major financial institutions in Edinburgh would shift south of the border.

Why would that be? Quite often small countries can offer quite good insentives for comapanies.

I don't see what diference it would make. Ok RBS was incorp. by charter some decade or so after Union, but financial institutions like the Bank of Scotland, formed before the act of union, came by colaboration from some investors south of the border. I don't see how that would change today.

If Scotland did become independent of the UK, what would the rest of the UK be called? Would it become the United Kingdom of England, Wales and Northern Ireland? Although I think NI would probably leave the UK too if Scotland did, so then it would just be the United Kingdom of England and Wales. Or would it just go back to the way it was pre-union and just be England with that bit that wishes it wasn't part of England?
