Scottish Inderef Mk2 - lets have a civilized discussion folks.

I wouldn't even want to retain the pound, it'd be far more to the benefit to London than it would to Scotland... the EURO has other advantages in that it compares well with Pound anyway, so we might as well just take it if it came to joining the EU.

But what would you use until you joined the EU?

How would an independent Scotland retaining the pound (fairly certain they were already told on the run up to the previous Independent vote time this isn't an option) be beneficial to the UK?

if scotland broke off then joined the EU then yes you would see a positive effect for Scotland.

cause and effect. just because it's not happening already doesn't mean it will never happen. w need to have a few things put in place first like become independent and join the EU whilst retaining the £.

But you cannot keep Sterling and join the EU, as all new members MUST take the Euro as their national currency after X number of years.

On this issue I personally think Scotland should be allowed the vote, providing it happens right now. That way they don't get to hold on to see what Brexit deal we get and then change their mind again.

I just find it funny, Scotland voted to stay in the UK, then UK then voted to leave the EU, Scotland then wants to leave UK. Scotland = want want want

In a similar way that all the the southern europe countries using the Euro benefits Germany by stopping the Euro from rising massively and harming their exports. If Scotland used their own currency there would very likely be an initially period where it rapidly inflated against the pound meaning exports to Scotland would become more expensive. If they peg to the pound, or continue using the pound - (RUK can't stop them doing that they would just have no say on monetary policy and the BOE wouldn't be lender or last resort) that wouldn't happen.

Scotland voted to stay in the UK mainly because they were told it was the only way they could stay in the EU...
A Scottish referendum should purely be a matter for the Scots, seeing the bile from some (presumably English) posters here and on FB I wouldn't be at all surprised if they voted to leave.

I would assume Scotland would have to go through the whole joining process for the EU? That takes years? So staying the UK kept them in, but they agreed to be part of the UK. The UK as a whole voted to leave the EU.

No, Wee Nicola and her cronies, want want want.

Yeah, true enough. So like someone said in a previous post, let Scotts vote on it, and if they vote to stay in the UK then Nicola should stand down.

Heh! Sturgeon must be seriously cheesed off.
Actually that was the best response she could hope for. Sturgeon knows that support for independence has decreased since the last referendum, only by making the Tories out to be evil can she drag it back up and having MAy refuse a referendum is a good start.
