Screwed up

From time to time most of us make bad judgements - this appears to be one them.

It would be easy for me to sit back and judge but you've admitted your wrong doing. I'm confident that regardless of the outcome you've already learnt your lesson.

Hope it goes well for you dude.

I was disqualified in July 2006 for 20 months for blowing 73 on a breath test, I'm not defending myself because it was obscenely wrong but I was having a mental breakdown at the time. I wasn't stopped, my car broke down about 2 mintues from my house and a car behind stopped to help and then phoned the police after driving off, some people tell me I was incredibly unlucky (you have a 1 in 1000 chance of being caught drink driving), but I think had I not been caught then I could have ended up doing damage to myself or someone else by continuing with such reckless behaviour.

When you go to court they will read the charge and ask you how you plead, from my own investigations if you don't plead guilty then they get annoyed and you are more likely to incur a harsh sentance. They also don't like it if you turn up with a solicitor, so don't hire one unless you are sure he can make a difference (by showing the machine was broken or something).

You give them your exceptional circumstances before they make the judgement, and they will take them in to consideration but it is almost guaranteed to not affect the sentance which has to be a minimum of a years ban, the alternative in exceptional circumstances is a load of points (but you won't get that for needing to drive for your job or taking your parents about).

Why should they be more lenient on someone who needs a car to work? Surely those people should be more aware of driving while intoxicated as they have more to lose.

I agree. Gets annoying when people caught doing stupid speeds which I wouldnt dare drive at get away without a ban becuase they need their car to earn a living selling carpets samples or whatever when I know that if it was me I'd get banned..

If ( and this is almost certan ) you are found guilty you will prob get a 12 month ban ( this is minimum and you are obscenely unlikey to not be banned ) , this can be reduced by 3 months it you take a drink awareness course

you will also get fined though this is not likely to be much, prob about £300

Sheesh, rough day but I don't suppose you need telling.
Similar happened to my mate, 12mth ban and a fine, I forget the amount.
He got out of his current job as he needed the car also, started work in a similar IT position but in-house instead of out-calls.

Just need to accept it yourself and start letting other people know so you can move on if that's what is needed, which for the job part I reckon it will be.
Can you talk with your boss/manager to see if they have anything that would not require the car?

As mentioned afterwards insurance becomes a nightmare :(.
It's not the end of the world though, mistakes happen and no-one was injured.
Chin up.

You're lucky if you get a ban and fine, plenty of others have felt "just fine" after 3 pints, got in a car and killed themselves and/or others.

Not gonna lecture you on it, you know you made a mistake, but having this sensible approach to it really doesn't help after said incident :(

Hope you mean 300 quid is not much for the offense he has committed, or are you just blowin your own trumpet?, 300 quid aint much, pffft....

£300 isn't much, it goes up to £2000 and they will fine you that amount.

Minimum fine is £200 + £40 costs dependant on means (if you have a job it is going to be closer to £1000).

I do feel abit sorry for mate..

After 3 pints I do feel ok and think i'd be ok to drive. I can see how and why some might think its ok. It is quite a lot though to drink and even 5 hours isn't that much of time for it to clear from your system. If i'm driving I never drink, even just having the one to me is pointless. Might aswell not drink at all and have a totally clear head.

The police must have had their suspicions you were over the limit for them to take you in like that.

But its not the end of all things for you, it could have been so much worse.
