Seagate 7200.10's are noisiest drives EVER!

How on earth a noisey drive can be RMA'd is beyond me. If you get one with green glue, tough. I did the easy thing, asked before I bought them.
You would be great for customer service, just the kind of thing customers like to hear. Just out of interest what do u mean u asked them before u bought? What were u buying? Given that most e-tailors will not disclose the revision number of motherboards, why would they tell u if they had pink or green on a hard drive?

Why do I respond to crank posts all the time? :(

Well, just because they are noisey does not mean they are faulty. They just happen to have noisey motors in them, correct?

Before I bought mine I asked to have a one with pink glue sent. Simple.

There are threads all over the internet about these drives so people know they run the risk of getting a noisey one.

So you are putting a company through a lot of hassle and expense returning/restocking etc etc and everything else that goes into it just because you got a drive which happens to be noisey, even though you ordered it knowing that.

If the drive didn't work, then fair enough. But not because it has a noisey motor. Madness.

I have bought 2x 500GB 7200.10's, one just before x-mas, pink glue, made in china. The other at the start of march from OC, also pink glue made in china. Both very quiet and nice and fast in RAID.

I never bought a 7200.10. If it wasnt grounds to reject the drive as too noisy then why did u ask specifically for a non-noisy one? Very hypocritical.

Personal preference perhaps with a dose of common sense. The drive is excellent and I knew the pink glue ones were silent. It wouldn't take the brains of Einstein to work that one out. It would only be hypocritical of me as you say if I had a green glue one and sent it back. What a waste of several posts. Idiot.

Im really stuck between

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM

or

Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB 3200KS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM

If I get the Seagate from overclockers, will it be the quiet one? the pink glue one?

That makes all the sence of ridiculing someone who has a fly in their soup just because u asked the waiter to check if their was one in yours because u knew the kitchen was infested. What if someone didnt even know there was a chance of a fly in their soup, i.e. just bought the drive thinking it had acceptable noise levels?

I dont know why ** post remains unedited by a mod but personal insults are not allowed on the forums.

To all you people with "quiet" drives, are we just talking idle noise here or seeks aswell?

Currently looking at replacing a drive with very noisy seeks and am not liking the lottery there appears to be with drive noise lately. It seems even the Samsungs are suffering from physical vibration which can transfer to the case and cause noise :(

Bought one of these the other day, 320gb flavour, as everyone seems to be raving about them so seemed a good choice.... wrong!! They're so damn noisey :(

Took the hard-drive back today and got it replaced. The new one is exactly the same

I've never really noticed my hard drives before but this just shouts for attention. It makes a constant low pitched kind of buzzing sound all the time, even in the BIOS. Soon as it's powered up it does it and it's a very irritating sound. Almost sounds like it's making my whole case vibrate.

My case is an Antec Sonata and the drives are on rubber grommets. I wouldn't like to hear how loud they'd be in a normal case

Was going to post this yesterday but thought I'd wait and see what the replacement was like first incase it was just a one off. So warning to anyone whose thinking of buying one of these. I'd look elsewhere if I was you if you have a quiet PC.

I cant hear mine over my graphics card fan :)

Just got two of the 500gb 7200.10's delivered from OCUK, both pink glue and installed with no hassle. I don't think they are any noiser than my WD drives so am very happy (I was a bit worried after reading this thread).

Great service from OCUK again.
