How on earth a noisey drive can be RMA'd is beyond me. If you get one with green glue, tough. I did the easy thing, asked before I bought them.
You would be great for customer service, just the kind of thing customers like to hear. Just out of interest what do u mean u asked them before u bought? What were u buying? Given that most e-tailors will not disclose the revision number of motherboards, why would they tell u if they had pink or green on a hard drive?GraemeUK said:How on earth a noisey drive can be RMA'd is beyond me. Why do I respond to crank posts all the time?
I never bought a 7200.10. If it wasnt grounds to reject the drive as too noisy then why did u ask specifically for a non-noisy one? Very hypocritical.GraemeUK said:Well, just because they are noisey does not mean they are faulty. They just happen to have noisey motors in them, correct?
Before I bought mine I asked to have a one with pink glue sent. Simple.
There are threads all over the internet about these drives so people know they run the risk of getting a noisey one.
So you are putting a company through a lot of hassle and expense returning/restocking etc etc and everything else that goes into it just because you got a drive which happens to be noisey, even though you ordered it knowing that.
If the drive didn't work, then fair enough. But not because it has a noisey motor. Madness.

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM
or
Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB 3200KS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM
If I get the Seagate from overclockers, will it be the quiet one? the pink glue one?
That makes all the sence of ridiculing someone who has a fly in their soup just because u asked the waiter to check if their was one in yours because u knew the kitchen was infested. What if someone didnt even know there was a chance of a fly in their soup, i.e. just bought the drive thinking it had acceptable noise levels?GraemeUK said:Personal preference perhaps with a dose of common sense. The drive is excellent and I knew the pink glue ones were silent. It wouldn't take the brains of Einstein to work that one out. It would only be hypocritical of me as you say if I had a green glue one and sent it back. What a waste of several posts. Idiot.

Took the hard-drive back today and got it replaced. The new one is exactly the same
I've never really noticed my hard drives before but this just shouts for attention. It makes a constant low pitched kind of buzzing sound all the time, even in the BIOS. Soon as it's powered up it does it and it's a very irritating sound. Almost sounds like it's making my whole case vibrate.
My case is an Antec Sonata and the drives are on rubber grommets. I wouldn't like to hear how loud they'd be in a normal case
Was going to post this yesterday but thought I'd wait and see what the replacement was like first incase it was just a one off. So warning to anyone whose thinking of buying one of these. I'd look elsewhere if I was you if you have a quiet PC.
