Welcome aboard
Assuming you are running a windoze based PC, directly connected to the internet:
Simply download the seti classic client from here
http://www.piggott.me.uk/seticlassic
Copy that to a folder say c:\seti
Run the .exe (it is the seti client). It will open a Dos Command window. When prompted for options, as classic has closed to new accounts, enter one of the email addys previously posted perhaps teamodalot at onetel.com, duncan [at] susannah.co.uk (Team Guinness), or there's Sammael's account if you follow the links in
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=5918805&postcount=1.
If all goes well you should see it download a load of stuff, and then a message saying nothinf further will be dsiplayed. Minimise, but do not close, the Dos window for classic to keep running. You can check it is runing by using the Windows Task Manager >processes - should show CPU use as 100% and you'll see the seti taks using the vast majority.
You might want to progress and set this up to run automatically. Start it prevously as above. Then close the window. Easiest way is to make it a scheduled task (start menu > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools) Add a new task and browse to your seti.exe client. Tick "when my computer starts", If prompted for password, use windows account and password that would have rights to the PC, even if someone else is logged on, check the advance properties box, and on the settings tab, make sure the stop after 72 hours box is cleared. Save & close. reboot the PC. When you've restarted, check task manager and you'll see if the CPU is at 100% as before to confirm it's all going.
If you have a hyperthreaded or dual processor CPU, simply create a seti1 & seti 2 folder. Then you can set up each seti1 & seti2 .exe file as above, and then automate them both.
You can get sophisticated and add seti driver. I don't use it. Instead I go for the
setiqueue software. There are links from that site for setup instructions, but simply, run the setup file. Now run the setiqueue.exe. In the settings > general enter your chosen email address, and the account name in use. You only need one setiqueue on a network, or it can be run on each PC that runs seti.
Now go to your seti.exe startup files, (if scheduled task edit the properties for them). the startup line will need to be changed to something like C:\seti\seti.exe -proxy 127.0.0.1:5517. The c:seti\seti.exe is the path to the classic exe file. The -proxy has an IP address, this is either the local address for your PC i.e 127.0.0.1 or an actual IP address on your network for the PC runing the setiqueue client. 5517 is the default port for the seti queue server.,
There is a lot more links and ways to setup in from the
Greatest Sticky - TOSAH archive although some of the links in there might not be active anymore.
