Wow. I would be on the phone to the union immediately to get some advice. Failing that a solicitor. That is pretty much as good a definition of unfair dismissal as you will find.
 
I don't know about this kind of thing but it sounds massively unfair. I'd get in contact with a solicitor ASAP and see what you can do either with the intention of getting your job back or if that isn't possible get the ball rolling on a tribunal.
 
This sure sounds like unfair dismissal. You cannot lose a job because you are friends with someone who is a few years younger.

Effectively nothing has changed since you got the job but they are dismissing you anyway. That’s unfair dismissal. EDIT: There are lots of 19 year olds working in schools.

Damn! :( Glad to hear that it was BS made up by a student, but now your out of a job because of something entirelly different WTF?? Sorry to hear that man - I would be straight on the phone to CAB right away.

The couple I know are friends of friends, so occasionally we're all out having a drink together, but apart from that, and saying hi if I see them out and about or what ever, there's nothing more to it. No relationships or anything like that.

Get some legal help ASAP because im sure they cant do that, not that you should have agreed to a resignation and you need to fight them all the way.

It cannot be possible for people to do this, surely? :mad:

They basically said because OP knows some 6th formers outside of the place of work that he should resign and that such friendship is not allowed?

Incorrect, I knew plenty of college tutors who socialise on the odd occasion etc with students when I was in college.

I really hope for your sake that something good works out for you. Definitely contest it, but through the correct channels.

Did you enter the 'disciplinary' with an impartial party present, or record what was said?
 
I socialised with some teachers when I was in 6th form. Hell, we even went out for drinks.

If that is indeed the whole truth of the matter, then I suggest you get some proper legal representation immediately, as that's just not right. Get yourself over to the nearest CAB - to be fair it's not like you're going to be doing much now, so there's no excuse not to.
 
What the hell? A few of my teachers at 6th form used to invite us all out for drinks a few times per year and nothing was even mentioned about us being social with teachers outside of school.

This is definitely unfair dismissal and you'll definitely win your case. Good luck

Tell them you won’t resign, and if they dismiss you'll take the matter further. When faced with the possibility of a legal case they won't have the balls to go through with it.

So if one pupil made an allegation against a member of staff, and another one followed suit against another teacher and so on, the result would be every staff member suspended? :confused:
