***Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice***

Anyone "mastered" Mikiri counter?? Been trying to beat this optional boss and I can't figure out whether you're suppose to move towards the target and press dodge to trigger it or you stand still and press dodge when the symbol appears.
Getting mixed comments from like gamefaqs and other websites explaining it isn't very clear to me and typical FromSoftware their explanation of the skill itself in-game isn't always made clear and the training thing is way too simple and feels like it just work but going in actual combat you try do same thing and it doesn't work.

When pressing dodge do not move in any direction, wait for the symbol which alerts you to the attack. When you see the guy start to attack press dodge on its own and you will counter. Once you have done it a couple of times it is easy to do.

I do suggest using a pad for this game though, it is easier.

Looking forward to getting this game (must finish DS3 DLC first!). Also dreading this game!

But, this comment raises a concern that always comes up for me: are many people playing with keyboard and mouse? If so, how is it?

I've used KB&M for DS1, 2, and 3. I tried a controller in both 1 and 2, but just didn't feel comfortable with it (I generally dislike using controllers and doubt I'll ever become very skilled with them at this point in my life). All three of these games I found actually completely fine. I really struggled with Manus, Fume Knight, Twin Princes and Friede, but I don't think input method really played into that, and otherwise I didn't really have any problems. DS1 needed the mouse fix applying, but was all good once I'd done that.

Seen a few people saying Sekiro really does need a controller, though. Tbh, if it's not a decent experience with keyboard and mouse I'll just give it miss, sadly.

If you were capable of beating the other games with kb/mouse, then I suspect this will be just fine for you.

Yeah, I was hoping that's the case, but whilst From's PC support has improved, there have been notable shortcomings in the past (no UW support (still!), capped FPS, the disastrous mouse support in DS1, etc.) so it's worth checking with each of their games I think.

Also, there's the consideration of what you lose versus controller input. Obviously, you gain far better and faster camera control given that the mouse is properly supported, but you do lose analogue directional input. With all this talk of directional side-stepping and precise positioning being important in Sekiro I wondered if this makes the game a lot harder than it should be on KB&M. I don't think I've seen anyone anywhere say definitively "yes, I've played with keyboard and mouse and it's absolutely fine."

Personally, any game that isn't FPS is better on a controller. This is just for my play style though and I don't think I'd be any good at all at games like this on KB&M. Your best bet is to try and then post about it so others with the same question have an answer.

There is a tutorial section, play up to the first 'boss' which only takes 15 mins, repeat this by starting the game over again. But the end of the tutorial, you'll know which you favor best.

Massive Souls fan, but I just can't get excited about this. No weapon/armour sets, less stats. Doesn't seem like much of a step forward to me tbh. I'll definitely pick it up in a sale, but I'm not rushing to get it.

Yeh, I read there are no extra weapons or armour sets to discover. Just a few prosthetics.

That's half the fun of an action/RPG game gone right there.

I think you have to play it really. If your a massive souls fan you are gonna love this seriously.

Yes it's one upgradable weapon, but the way the combat works is simply devine. It's also a rock solid challenge and as one redditor put it 'it makes you feel like a fraud for thinking your actually good at souls games'.
The verticality is great mainly because there are so many secret areas and ways into most situations.

I'd say it's harder, more forgiving in terms of loss as you can just spend coin on items or even money pouches to 'bank' what you have and the loss of experience is only for that level which can be quickly gained back.

But the combat is harder, gone are the days of just blocking everything and countering when you first start a souls game. You will die. A lot.

I finally beat purple dude last night, for some reason, after that the combat just clicked for me, cleared out waves of enemies whilst farming even aggro'ing them all to practice being out numbered and it just felt amazing and fun. Started the butterfly lady, not using the snap seeds as I want to hold onto the 5 I have. It's a pretty simple fight, attempted it around 5 times and each time made solid progress so I'll have her down tonight. Only put 7 hours into it so far, need a night dedicated to the game lol.

As for armour and weapons, remember there is a huge skill tree as well as a large list of prosthetics which are more than just a move set, I just got the raven one after defeating the purple guy and it's awesome just phase shifting out of a heavy attack.
